This mini-rant has been bothering me for a while... is it just me, or does everybody always seem to run?
Why is everyone in such a hurry?
Isn\'t there ANYONE else who simply walks?!

No, this is part of the \"Healthy Hydlaans\"-philosophy... either that, or it\'s perphaps because no character has ever gone to the restrooms in all their life. ;)
Seriously, I think walking in-game is quite a bit slower than I would walk in reality, even if I just \"wander around\". :)

I can\'t be entirely sure, but according to measurements, which I did some time ago, the length of step (when avatar is walking) is aroud 1 meter (90 centimeters?), quite normal value, isn\'t it ?
Everybody is usually running, because moving from one place to another isn\'t the purpose of their actions, but only a way to reach certain places (the faster the better). My character walks, when it has RP reason for that. I think, that You will see more walking people, when functions allowing \"talking while walking\" are implemented.

Yes, but the time such a step takes is rather long. :)

I really wish more people would walk instead of running.
- Use the auto-walk option and then go to the chat window if you want to walk and talk
- Running people look strange due to missing animations
- I hardly see the names of people when the fly by and have no idea who I missed or didn\'t greet
- Might be that I tried to write \"Hello Sir/Madam\", but you disappeared so fast that I couldn\'t finish it

I personally run all over if I\'m not dealing with anyone.
Why run? I want to see everything! A game of this nature typically implies action, and rushing to experience it all is part of it. Action is what captivates a gamer\'s attention. If it\'s too slow, they\'ll find something else to play.

Basically, walking takes way too long for a game. We should assume that people have different things to do in their lives than just play Planeshift, so they can\'t afford walking slowly.
If this walking was a part of a bigger role-play, in a group or such, then it would be more important.
But generally it does more bad than good.
In RPGs you just have Game Master describing all the things around you and then *boom*, you walked quite a distance within one minute ;)

Tyrnal can be found walking a lot, even across the long road from Akkaio to Hydlaa. He is a member of the Vaal Guard and has no reason to run around like a headless chicken whenever he is patrolling the area. Unless Tyrnal has business somewhere or is rushing in to help travellers and visitors he\'ll just be wandering around calmly.
With the rest of my characters I tend to walk around in public areas like the tavern and the plaza, when there is nobody around and nothing of interest to see I\'ll run.

well you have your wish for the moment :p running is disabled while they fix animations.

I agree that walking is far too slow. Most people walk much faster. I also think that stamina needs to drain a bit faster (this\'ll help keep everyone from running). Also, good role-players need to lead by example. Similarly, if you see some with weapons drawn in a public place for no immediate reason, tell them to put them away.

for me, it\'s the opposite. i walk when i have nothing important to do.
granted, I tend to run alot, since I\'m usually meeting someone (and I always happen to be late... ^_^). but i do prefer walking. it lets me see the scenery.
on a random note: a funny thing to add to stamina! hit 0 and you keel over and die... i mean, who\'s heart can really stand running from here to china and back? you could be the most fit person in the WORLD, but i can guarantee that your heart would probably give out. that or get so muscularily big it would just explode out of you like some kind of freakish mutant alien.

You can\'t run until your stamina reaches 0% :P
I think you can\'t run once it reaches 30% or something.

no offence but who cares...people are impatient in life anyway so it reflects on there in game char.

If you hit 0 stamina you can\'t move. If walked was a little faster then I don\'t see a need for running but at the moment its too slow.

1) I always have weapons loaded on Kythag. He is a big, dumb galoot that is laways looking for a monster to kill because that is all he is good at. If you see me in plaza with weapons drawn, please roleplay telling me to put weapons away. I am a character in the game, not me.
2) The fatigue system is designed to prevent openly running everywhere. I like to think that the designers added a fatigue-drained effect on every action I take as a character(and it might explain why I couldn\'t hit a Tefusang and died once or twice or...
