So, after a difficult install, finally got the game working, first thing I do is walk into some church building and fall down a well or something because of the poor lighting. Great. Now my character is running around dark catwalks around some library in the death realm. There is nowhere to go (at least that I can find), there are no other players around. I\'ve been stuck here for 2 days now. I really want to figure out how to get out of this hell place. Looking throught the forums, people just getting told \"look for the sparkly portal\", \"follow someone\", \"ask someone\", \"it\'s really not that hard\" .... there is nobody around to follow or ask! And it is hard! If I don\'t get out of here soon, I will have to say this game is unplayable and move on to another game. I would like to give it chance... but it\'s not giving me a chance.
Can\'t somebody just tell me where to go?
-
Yeah, the death realm needs a lot of work... I dont know how to tell you exactly how to get out, just that you need to go off roading. find ways without a path, then drop down onto another catwalk. it looks like you will die again, but I didn\'t. Just be careful around narrow walkways. hope this helps.
-
Not on the forums, no.. :) But there have been hints posted. I needed someone to help me out as well when I first went down, and it certainly took a while. But if you\'re utterly desparate, try asking an advisor in the Help tab of your chat window, or petition a GM.
-
The help channel will most likely not help you, because advisors have agreed to not give instructions on the help channel. Especially if you ask \"How can I exit DR?\". But if you are really desperate and spent 2 days or more without finding your way out, tell it on the help channel and I believe that soon you will meet a nice person in the Death Realm who offers you a little help ;)
-
yes this death realms idea needs a rethink.
Mostly new players die early on due to stupidity, I type /die to see what happened :/
It is almost impossible for noobs to get out, especially when they are still trying to learn the interface, I tried all the tricks I could, like folowing people, but I seemed to chose the people who were lost already. then fall down and restart. Of course the more experienced players know just what to do and where to go so them it is just a minor inconvience to be sent there, 2 minutes later they are out. This is biased towards punishing the noobs.
If you are really stuck and not seeing anyone or anything, try typping /die to get you back to the begining, or delete your character and restart, being careful to avoid dying from now on. This isnt my idea of RP but it does get frustrating after days.

Instead of a long twisting path, maybe there should just be a stairway. This huge stairway (twisting if you like) that takes about 30 secs running to get to the top. And a forked path to get there. One way leads into the DR, the other up the staircase.
I too couldn?t get out for a looong time the first time. Having to drop, when that?s the thing you?re trying to avoid the most, is kinda mean.
-
I think that\'s the spirit of a game - to be difficult enough. It will be a great reliev when you\'re out. I\'m lost myself since the DR update... But thanks for the hints, I will think about it
-
I too spent three days in the DR, but I don\'t think the answer should be posted to open forums. I think the intent is for you (the newly dead) to ask the passing person how to get out. When the mobs are up, there are more than enough people to interact with.
If you\'re in the DR and you see me (Araye), just ask me, I\'ll be glad to help you. That\'s how I finally got out.
Araye
-
Hmm... this is interesting stuff... I should keep this in mind...
:) Thanks guys. You even help the ones that didnt ask!! :D :P
-
Well you know once you know the way you\'ll never forget it again. I myself try to help as much people as I can. All they have to do is ask me to show them the way out.
I don\'t mind being followed by someone who doesn\'t know the way out. Because in the end I have helped the person :D
But anyway, all you need to do is ask, I\'m certain that there are loads of nice people who happen to be dead and who like to help.
-
Hi,
I\'m a noob that eventually found my way out by following someone. My problem was that one stairway was completely invisible to me. Someone in-game suggested that I alter my video card\'s gamma, but I didn\'t do that.
If you are standing on the red platform that appears to just stop, try following the wall around to your left. Hug the wall closely so as not to fall, but walk far enough away from the wall so that you can progress up this (what was for me) invisible staircase. Then you can explore the rest of the DR which will hopefully be visible for you.
If you fall, try typing /unstick (or is it /unstuck?) or /die into your chat box.
-
Well, I think after being in the death realm for a week now.
I finally found others walking around but nobody would tell me how to get out. I even managed to find a place to drop down to a narrow pathway, which was much too dark to navigate. After falling back down into the dark abyss about 10 times, I\'ve had enough.
-
If you\'ve been in the Death Realm for a week with no way to get out, explaining the situation to an advisor or petition a GM would get you the help you need. Quitting a game is a silly thing to do over something like this :)
-
Ok, I cheated... I put the gamma correction on my video card to +10 and now easily found the way out. Geesh, whoever designed the death realm is really hankering for a c***punch.
-
Smart you, but its acctuaslly pretty easy after you search around a bit. Just explore. There isnt much ways of where you can go the wrong way. Once you see that that\'s the worng way, youll know not to go the. Its not like the kinda fork tree where theres 60 wrong ways and only 1 right one. Its like maybe 5 wrong ways and 2 right ones. Trust me, when you put your mind to it, you can get out. I did ;)
-
I have to say that the way out is EASY to find IF you can see. That was my problem, I didn\'t know my monitor was so dark (and I have brightness and contrast at 100%). So, with gamma adjustment I found my way out no problem. Then I later found that the --fullbright parameter works just as well.
But without those things, it IS COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE to find your way out. It\'s basically like walking around in the complete dark, only seeing your legs move but not the ground beneath you... so you\'re not even sure if you\'re walking or stuck against a wall!
Anyway, I just thought I should add this comment here to all you people that must have thought I was an idiot for not finding my way out for so long.
Reminder to self - time to buy new LCD monitor and throw out my current old dark CRT.
-
Imagonnahafta disagree with you there. The Death Realm is rediculously hard to navigate even when you can see.
-
First time I died, I thought I would never come out, so I made another char, then I died again, so I made another one, and then another one etc. etc.
-
It took me about fifteen minutes to go out of DM the first time, without asking anything more that how to get out of the \"bottom\" of it in the advisory channel.
I\'m very suprised people can\'t get out of it... :D
-
Hey,
I started playing the game two days ago, and I think it\'s great .... But the Death Realms suck. I was almost out when I fell somewhere really deep, and now I can\'t see a thing and I can\'t even spawn back to the starting point in DR. If I was able to get back there I am confident I would find my way out. Down in the dark place I met a bunch of confused players, who just had enough of the DR, and _none_ were able to help me. So my suggestion: Take the dark, deep place away/ put in a few extra lights (Only down there, I think the rest od DR is OK) / let the player spawn back to the beginning by typing /die. Now I just remain there if I type it. Oh, and the biggest joke of all is that I didn\'t get in the DR by dying. I was out in the wilderness after Ojaveda, when the server crashed and when I reconnected half an hour later, I found myself in the deathrealms. Dunno why that happened, I huess it is part of playing with an alpha wersion ;)
And someone go down there and _help us_ we need guidance, and none of the experienced players go down in the deep.
-
Well, returning from dead is hardly going to be easy is it ;)
-
Well, yeah, it\'s not easy... the first time. I am just back from the game and I have to say that thanks to the helpfulness of another player, I managed to get out. So everyone: It can be done.
But the next time I die, I will know the route. So returning from the dead will _not_ be difficult. Especially, if I observed correctly, there is no loss in terms of belongings, experience and skill. So there is nothing making me stop to think: \"Should I attack that monster?\" Because if I die, I will go to the DR, get out in 2 minutes (yes, it takes that little time if you know the way, or you are shown), train a little and go back to the monster. So I think the Death Realms in its current form is still a _Bad Idea_. Think of some extra penalty. Because making people go blind by staring at a dark monitor from 2 centimeters is not a realistic and fun way of dealing with the dead IMHO.
-
You\'re playing a game in early alpha development :) That means a lot of things are still in their birth, the Death Realm included. In the future it will grow to incredible proportions, and require a lot more than simply finding a 2-minute exit. However, removing it entirely now just because it annoys a few players is not an option.
-
In the future it will ... require a lot more than simply finding a 2-minute exit.
That\'s fine with me. All I\'m saying is that the challenge in the DR should not be darkness. Or at leat not this kind. Maybe logical puzzles, or such. Or even the maze can stay, but please put in some more lights. But now I\'m wondering into the wishlist section...
-
I can see perfectly fine, and I didn\'t have to adjust any of my monitor settings :) Strangeness. Have you attempted to explore the Death Realm with -fullbright?
-
And if you finally get lost, since you are already in the DR, typing /die is really an option! ;)
-
Some people just have dark monitors, like myself. My one computer has a 19\", but dark, monitor (even with brightness and contrast on 100%). Without -fullbright or gamma correction, I see nothing in most spots in the DR!
I also have a smaller 17\" monitor, with which I can see perfectly fine in the DR without the -fullbright or gamma correction.
So, it all depends on your monitor or GFX card. Hardware issue. People with sucky hardware get punished in the DR.
BTW- /die still seems to bring me back to the spawn area if I am in the very bottom, does this not work for some people?
-
Ya, Ive seen some people get stuck there unless they have a GMs help. For some odd reason /die doesnt always work at the bottem. But I have noticed, at least on my two pcs, that its typically a thing that happens a couple times. Typically if I keep typing it when it happens, I eventually respawn up there.
-
The only spot too dark is the initial spiral staircase. Just take it sloooowly, and try to visualize the staircase winding upwards towards the wall to your left. If you hug the wall like you would in real life, you can inch your ways around. Because it is dark, use the third person camera and look for background light to outline the edge of the walkway to make it easier. Once you\'ve done it once or twice, you won\'t even think about it again. Then you can have fun trying to find the way out. I didn\'t have to use -fullbright at all, so you shouldn\'t need to.
-
ok first of im newb so dont yell at me for asking this stupid qeustion but what is fullbright and how do you use it? (i get stuck in DR due to not being able to see)
I know the way out but i get still fall of edges because i can not see.
-
Fullbright turns off lighting I believe, so you get no dark shadows nor darkness bugs. However it makes things less pretty, and you won\'t tell night from day.
To run your client with -fullbright, right-click on your PlaneShift shortcut, hit Properties, and then:

-
Just an addon to the darkness thing: I tried PS with another monitor today, and to my surprise the differenc was huge. I died on purpose to see the DR with it. The Death Realms were fantastic this way. I was able to fint the exit in a minute, but I went back and explored. I mean I like this DR. But the dark one sucked. So good job people! Now I fully support expanding the DR :D. And if you see only darkness, and adjusting your gamma doesn\'t help: Get a brighter monitor.
-
Ya but getting a brighter monitor isnt always an option people can do. Some people just dont have the money to get another one. I dont think its fair to tell them to either get a new one and stop whining. We should really get the DR fixed and make a little brighter.
-
What is there to \"fix\" though, if the DR is properly lit on decent monitors? :/
In the meantime, there is -fullbright, yes there is :>
-
Sometimes the darkness is not intentional. Until that fire is stomped out, I don\'t know if I can even tell what\'s supposed to be dark and what isn\'t.
-
if you want out of the pit type /die
you will die and start over after starting over just follow someone out
