Well..I beleive I\'ve seen similar ideas in a few places, and I dont see the point of it but, Iwould still make for an intersting commercial I guess. I doubt Planeshift will ever have a commercial which is why I dont see the point, and Id much rather see a sweet animated rendered version instead.

You forgot to show the message \"Server is not responding. It has probably crashed and will be restarted in 5 minutes\" at the end of your commercial  :]

I don\'t think there\'s a point in realistic talking about commercials, seeing as this seems to be for fun only :P

yep. it\'s all in fun. mostly just a creative exercise.

well it would probably bring in alot more characters, a good thing and a bad thing. It means more players to teach about the game but also makes the game alot more populated which i think it needs. But still i really doubt that this will be made soon, if at all.

That\'s a carbon copy of that Sims commercial. :p  Don\'t give me that look, you know it\'s true.

I think a Planeshift cartoon would be nice. Since it\'s a roleplaying game (and has mythical creatures) special effects would be kind of cheesy, with magic and all, so a cartoon could suffice.

People make their own stories all the time, so you would just have to fit the pieces together. Almost everyone\'s story corresponds with the next one way or another, such as the Odessa stories, and my Mitaki stories.

/me pictures the Planeshift anime series.

Actually, we have masscom students here at the University I work at who do this kind of thing all the time--just for class projects.  What would be the harm in having one made and then distributed all over the web?  A couple students here just were finalists for the X-box commercial contest.  ;)

I actually love the concept--and it would actually have a lot more impact done very simply, as steuben originally wrote it.  The idea captures the idea of a RP community, the \"faces behind the scenes,\" as it were, and the positive side of imagination very succinctly.  Simple, but elegant, it speaks to me!  :)

I agree with Danok, especially about the RP point...we don\'t want a bunch of people who think the game is nothing less but something to fool around with...;)

Maybe some glitches and bugs (like Akkaio) and a server crash at the end and it would be all soooo very realistic  :D .

Well having comercials all over the net would cause the illusion of a finished game,

Nono, I think that the history of Yliakum (or better the most important moments) drawn in stilistic pictures, with good music and good narration as intro would be much better.

I volunteer to be the large man, but it\'d mostly be a waist down shot.

Just kidding :)

I think it is a great idea to contemplate but I agree that actually doing it would be beneficially moot.  Way more noobs in the servers and complaining because of things that don\'t work instead of enjoying the things that do work vs increased account #s.

There is a fairly good balance of people that have a clue or can get one and those that do not and never will.  To offset that balance will drive off some good people.  Right now it seems people join the game about as fast as people learn enough to get by and get started and can help others to some extent.

I think it is good the way it is.

What of it? ;) Many people play characters that are of their opposite gender.

the first one could be one along the lines of a pbs slot. you know this program has been brough to you by...

but, here\'s another one. allows for a bit more animation and the like.

[setting: black space
vo, narrator (something along the lines of james earl jones): deep within the world there is an emmence cavern

[faintly something black can be seen approaching

vo, narr: within the cavern is a gaint stalagtite

[fly into the stalagtite. get occastional glimpses of small lit caverns and creatures

vo, narr: the stalagtite is hollowed out, and lit by the light --

[fly out of the stalagtite wall, out over a high altitude view of  yliakium

vo, narr: of the azure sun. a world--

[crash downwards to the 7th level. pause infront of a rainforested water fall.

vo, narr: of great beauty and --

[fly out over the central sea

vo, narr: and vibrant life --

[fly over two fishing boats. pull up. head inland. fly over a large port city.

vo, narr: populous cities and --

[fly up the escarpment to level 6. fly over desert, frequent ruins can be seen.

vo, narr: ruined wastes, of --

[fly off of desert and into grassland. two yliaki defending a group of villagers against a hoard of monsters.

vo, narr: heroes, and --

[fly over the monsters, a yliak is riding an ubernaught and hearding the monsters forward

vo, narr: villians.

[fly off of grassland into slightly hilly land. stop on one hill a yliak is lying in the shade of a tree.

vo, narr: this is the world of yliakium. your home.

That would be a lot of work to make... you\'d need to model quite a bit of stuff.

Perhaps once the world is fleshed out more this would be more feasible, since you\'d just need to pull the map into a modelling program and probably enable meshsmoothing on a few things.

btw, the slogan is (I\'m pretty sure...) \"PlaneShift: A universe is not enough\"

Just to clarify, I guess I was thinking of these ads being done for a final rollout of the completed game.  :P

When we eventually get there, how about a commercial contest, with several winners?  The final selections could be hosted/distributed and all of the others could be posted on a \"rollout\" site, or something.

Ideas, that\'s all these are.  ;)
