I have a persistent connection problem. I updated, removed art, reupdated without problem, but anyway the client reports that server is down. I check server status page and it says there are people connected.
Whats the problem?
-
If I look at your previous posts, I get a feeling that the game was working for you before.
Do you have any changes in your PC settings, or network configuration? Like installing/reconfiguring a firewall? Or perhaps your ISP has changed something? Make sure that nothing is blocking UDP port 7777.
-
Yes, it worked. I connected a feew days ago, before the update. Problems started since last wednesday or thursday.
-
Almost the same thing is happening to me. I open up planeshift, and enter my username and password, and select a server. But when I click ok, this thing comes up and says that the server is not running or not reachable. There is also this little box next to the servers that says fail 100. To fix this problem, I tried updating, but when I click the button, the window goes away and nothing happens, and planeshift still doesn\'t work. HELP!

Princess, though you\'ve made no mention of making sure that you have UDP port 7777 open, I\'d like to ask you just to be sure. Do you have any firewall or router running that may block this connection? Can you successfully ping laanx.fragnetics.com, also, without the connection timing out? (If you\'re on Windows, simply type \"ping laanx.fragnetics.com\" without the quotation marks into the Run command). And you have tried updating using recovery mode? There should be such an option in Start -> Programs -> PlaneShift Crystal Blue.

ok, thanx for the help, but i hav no idea wat u just sed. cud u say that in reali simple language cuz i dont noe anything bout this reali.
wats udp port 7777?
wats firewall or router?
wat does ping mean? and i dont hav windows, i hav mac
connection timing out? wat does that mean?
and wats recovery mode?
wats start? i searched in finder, but i cudnt find planeshift crystal blue
sry, but im reali clueless

I... frankly would suggest that you go to a parental unit or guardian at this point, or someone who manages your computer or network or internet :) Explaining firewalls/routers is a bit much for the moment. Is there anyone you can turn to at your place to ask if you have something like this set up? If so, they should know how to forward ports, or at least be willing to find information and do it quicker. I have a feeling that updating is a big part of the problem here - but there is a Mac forum a bit below that could help you out. Though again, I would recommend having someone else close to you help you out, because a tech demo can be even more complicated once you get inside the game :) I think it\'s definitely worth it, of course, but you may be looking for a more newbie-friendly game at the moment.
But perhaps someone else can come along and explain everything in clearer terms than I :D

Hi,
I just installed 3.0.1.2, and I\'m trying to connect.
I have exactly the same problem : in the server list, fragnetics appears, whith \"Fail 100%\".
The updater tries a ping, that also fails.
I\'m pretty sure my router is correctly set, but is there a test I could perform to be sure ?
A good old ping works (if a bit slow to respond).
btw : I\'m using gentoo linux, i686, and a d-link router (7777 allowed)
any idea ?
-
Well, I do know what you are talking about, and my port 7777 is open, but I still can\'t connect. I also can\'t ping the server. I am at a school that runs NAT. Any way I can still connect?
-
I don\'t think so.
That you managed to keep your computers ports opened, doesn\'t mean that you changed the bahavour of the subnet you\'re in.
Most commonly you\'re going through a router (either a phisical dispositive or a pc server routing all subnets) and if that router blocks the traffic, you\'ve nothing to do, since you won\'t be able to change its configuration.
If you\'d like to confirm that guessing, make a tracert command (tracert laanx.fragnetics.com) and see how the paquet doesn\'t finish the route (as you said that you can\'t ping either.
-
Wouaoh, look at that :
ping ok :
PING laanx.fragnetics.com (203.81.44.229) 56(84) bytes of data.
--- laanx.fragnetics.com ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 5 received, 0% packet loss, time 4014ms
but tracert : no way !
traceroute6 laanx.fragnetics.com
traceroute: unknown host laanx.fragnetics.com
this explains that, and I can forget about the game, right ?
too bad
-
mmm
that seems like if he\'s unable to resolve the DNS address?
Have you tried making the tracert on 203.81.44.229 ? Instead of typing laanx.fragnetics.com? It\'s weird, because it seemed that with the ping the address was resolved correctly.
Anyway, it\'s certain that if you\'re on an institution, chances are that you\'ve no right to change their network settings, nor port forwarding politic, so I guess you\'ll have to try playing the game outside that environment.
-
I can ping server and also traceroute it, but I still cant connect.
-
Then that means that there\'s no middle node down, so you have a route to reach the server.
Now you\'ve to find out what may be blocking the traffic, most commonly it\'s a software firewall. Configure it to allow connections on port 7777 UDP. Still I\'d recommend setting the firewall to some sort of \"wizard mode\" that most of them have, that will allow you to configure it properly in a user friendly way. Usually pop ups will appear prompting you to allow or not connection with a certain server and a certain port and direction.
Of course, it can also be that the server\'s down right now, so, if you only are experiencing this connection problems now, rogerdv, I think you\'ll have to wait, because it seems that the server\'s down now, and try again.
-
It is not a firewall problem. My outgoing connections are open, and I also opened incoming connections to see what happens and I still get a Fail when client pings server.
-
tried connecting anyways?
and have you tried connecting with the firewall off rather then wide open?
-
I need firewall for NAT.
-
When you first posted, the server was down, please retry and check if you can log in now.
-
I have been receiving Fail every day since 2 weeks ago.
-
It\'s weird that you\'re able to traceroute or ping but not play.
You already said that your pc has the port open, but also ensure that the first pc of your lan (meaning the one that has the inet connection) has opened it too.
I don\'t know what can be going wrong, but I guess you\'ll have to monitor each line of your net, with a program like ethereal (free) that will help you to find out what might be going wrong.
If you\'re able to play other online games, that should point, theoretically, that there\'s nothing wrong in the Network Address Translation, but I guess you\'ll have to have patience, and go and ensure with the mentioned program, that the data packet goes from your pc, and exits your lan to the inet, and then, that from the inet, it reaches your lan, and is correctly sent to your pc, again.
-
weird. but i\'ve seen it before.
the general suspect here is your firewall/nat. bypass, disable, whichever, basically remove it from the equation.
-
I\'m haveing the same issue. I\'m on a Mac OS X, if that helps. I just got my Mac, so I\'m fairly certian I don\'t have a firewall, unless it came with the Mac. I checked my securtiy settings anyway, to find that Firevalut was turned of, but thats not even a firewall is it? I don\'t know. And while I\'m at it, your username is your e-mail adress, right?
