Title: indie bands with web sites?
Post by: zanzibar on December 09, 2005, 01:36:55 pm
Anyone have any links to good indie rock bands they feel like sharing?  Just post a link and a description so people know if the page is worth visiting for them.

Moneen
http://www.myspace.com/moneen
Math-rock / brampton emo band.  Their new stuff isn\'t bad.

Ictus
http://www.myspace.com/ictus
Not sure how to classify them.  Some of their stuff is definately approaching gothic industrial.

And the Circus Leaves Town
http://www.myspace.com/circusf*ck (remove the star)
Young stoner rock band, highly influenced by kyuss.

Blood Pool
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=127828
Pretty loud grindy metal band.  Entertaining stuff.  And loud.

Rotting Stiffs
http://www.purevolume.com/rottingstiffs
Another grindy metal band which I\'ve enjoyed hearing.

For the Mathematics
http://www.purevolume.com/forthemathematics
Just a rock band with a trendy sound that I happen to like.  If you like crap like at the drive in.

Scarlet Sins
http://www.purevolume.com/scarletsins
I just like this band.  Good singing, grungey feel.

Ed Gein
http://www.myspace.com/edgeinband (better quality audio)
http://www.purevolume.com/edgein
A friend introduced me to these guys.  Converge style modern hardcore.

If this thread takes off then I\'ll post more.

arctic monkeys: No downloads available at this time.

editor\'s official:  Disco pop?  Reminds me a lot of Interpol\'s first album in a very good way.  Is it.... the.... what the heck?  They sound exactly like Interpol, but looking at the bio, they don\'t share any members.  I like this band, but you should definately check out the album \"turn on the bright lights\" by said clone.  Thanks for the link.

the rakes:  same kind of sound as editor\'s official only less disco and more rock.  I\'m guessing you\'re also into the shins, strokes, franz ferdinand, and the cardigans?

New moneen?  Thanks for pointing that out.  Here are a few:

http://www.purevolume.com/latterman
Shouted vocals (not screamed or yelled), kinda like Hot Water Music\'s later cds.

http://www.sound-king.com/bionic/media/music.php
Cummins from the Doughboys, if you know who they are.

http://www.purevolume.com/vaux

http://www.purevolume.com/marathon

Check out http://www.pandora.com if you\'re interested in finding new music.  You put in an artist and it plays others like them (with a little tweaking of your own), there are some nice little obscure bands there.

Well, I consider it new.  It\'s their second album, and some previews of their upcoming third.  Unless the third is already out and I haven\'t been paying attention.

I started listening to them the week \"a theory of harmonial value\" came out, so everything since then I call new. :-D

Latterman is a bit too poppy for my tastes.  Reminds me of braid for some reason.  Do you listen to Jawbreaker?

Bionic was good.  I\'ll plug them on another board which has a strong rock crowd.  Enjoyable.

Marathon was weird.  You definately dig the pop punk thing,

They have a split out with alexisonfire, but I don\'t like them so I never bought it.  I have both of their previous cds, however (I forget which was first/second).  To my knowledge a third full length isn\'t out.

Yeah, I listen to Jawbreaker. If you think Latterman is too poppy but like that type of vocals you might try out http://www.purevolume.com/strikeanywhere

I like some hardcore in the vein of With Honor (http://www.purevolume.com/withhonor) and Reach The Sky but that\'s about it.  Stuff like Ed Gein I can\'t listen to however.

Moneen and alexis on fire are both from the same scene you know.:)  Other good brampton bands:

wheels on the bus
and the circus leaves town

Yup.  Those are the only good bands in brampton.  I once saw this one band though... it would be called grindcore by most, but was really just hardcore emo.... I probably still have the flyer around from that show so maybe I\'ll dig around for it.  They were awesome though.

That band with honour is hardcore punk, only highly commercialized in terms of production and song writting.  Better than a lot of what\'s out there though.

To me, hardcore means black flag, minor threat, agnostic front, minute men, and husker du.  80\'s punk rock.  Now... it means something completely different.  People say hardcore, and they\'re talking about band like atreyo... norma jean... but that stuff just came out of Emo man.  Listen to mohinder or heroin or elements of need or even freaking indian summer.  It\'s just a harder / more metal version of all that late 80\'s and early 90\'s stuff, but \"emo\" sounds wimpy so they call it hardcore.

Plot two is a good song.  It\'s too bad that purevolume has such crappy streaming quality.  Adam told me they were going to fix it so here\'s hoping.

A bit girly, but Splashdown is a really great band from the 90\'s.  They have a mix of stuff... Ironspy is my favourite song at the moment.
