Title: Training to give information, not just ability.
Post by: thandar on December 13, 2005, 01:54:59 pm
Hi Folks,

I\'d like to make what I think is a minor change to the way training works.

Basically, when you train in some skill, especially magic, I\'d like your character to be given a book or a scroll of useful information relavent to the level you\'re training at.

This book would be non-transferable so you can\'t give it away or sell it.

The information I would like to see... In the case of magic I\'d like to know what glyphs are available for the Way I\'ve training in, Where spells could be bought.

Why do I want this? For 3 reasons...
1) Because it\'s frustrating not to know what spells are out there.
2) Because it\'s expensive to buy glyphs you can\'t use.
3) Because it\'s right :-) Training should impart information to the trainee, not just ability.

What do you think.

Cheers.

Thandar.

I believe that the Devs want to keep the things you just mentioned circulating among the players and not make it into a part of the game settings.

This means that they probably won\'t be giving lists or books over the types of available glyphs or their combinations out. Instead this information needs to be discovered by the players and those players will then be responcible for passing it on or keeping it to themselves, as they choose. Perhaps if it will be possible to write books as a player and put them in Jayose\'s library there are going to be books written about the subject.

I like it this way though .. it creates more interaction between people. Instead of going to an NPC for information, try going to an experienced mage player and gain their trust or even become their apprentice to learn what you need to know ;)

They\'re interesting points and I know there are aguments for keeping a lot of knowledge in-game.

In this case however, it just appears right to me that you should get something for the cost of training. I doesn\'t seem good that you can walk away from training without having learned anything., still not knowing who to buy glyphs from or what glyphs are part of the Way you\'ve just spent 4200tria on training a level in.

Surely all training is about imparting knowledge.

I know the devs are already worked off their feet and that this is not a vital bug fix, but it\'s still needed :-)

Cheers.

Perhaps upon training in your magic way, Levrus could give hints as to what\'s available - seeing as how he sells the glyphs as well :) All it would require is work on NPCs.
