I have appointed myself as Hell\'s Librarian. I will linger in the library, organizing books and helping those souls that are stuck in this realm. Please occasionally bring me some food and supplies from \"up top\".
-
Congratulations for getting the job! ;)
It could be nice to post a little story in the Roleplaying forum, maybe to explain how you got the job and also let people know what a librarian who lives in the DR does all day long. :)
I bet 50 tria that he\'s playing Yatsy...
-
Ah finally someone to help me get the right books for my studies whenever I\'m down there. I hope you brought a ladder with you to reach those high shelves ...
... wonder what\'s on them.
-
The funniest thing, all the pages of the books have been glued shut. How ironic that I hang out in a library all day and have nothing to read.
I guess that\'s hell for you.
Note: I am also offering safe-keeping services. You can leave items with me (like a bank) for a small fee of 50 trias.
-
Heh, I knew that place was gonna get a librarian sooner or later... It looked like it was just inviting someone to take the place :)
-
Hey, if you need some books on dark gods and whatnot, I\'d be happy to write them!
-
Mabey you should recruit some librarian assistants...I mean its a big library and someone might try and steal from you...Or use them to do the cleaning sorting or getting you items...That and it could get lonely down there...
-
I seem to already be picking up helpers. Didn\'t even ask for any.. they just come.
-
I\'ve heard from some of my minions that there are some people who do not agree with DR having a librarian helping people escape. Well, let me say that, yes, I\'ve been helping a TON of people get started on the right path out... but almost all of them had lighting issues... meaning they couldn\'t see anything. I had the same problem when I first started and I couldn\'t escape DR until I used the --fullbright param, at which point it became easy. So, why are people with dark monitors or crappy gfx cards penalized? That should not be part of the game! So, I devote myself to staying down here helping whoever I can. Luckily the hardest part is the darkness just after the library, so my place is a good one from which to direct people. I guess if the game lords find out about me and do not like me, then there isn\'t much I can do if they decide to kill me off. Until then, I am there to help the newbs.
-
Helping people in-game, in-character is perfectly fine. It\'s when things go out-of-character or you get specific help on the boards that there are issues.
Feel free to post a [RP] thread on the in-game roleplay forum detailing any adventures, etc you have as librarian. :)
-
Well, I do stay IC when I first meet people down here in the library. I ask them if I may of assistance. If they ask me how to escape, I point them in the right direction... if they come back soon after, still lost, I go OOC and ask them if they can see anything, at which point I will tell them about --fullbright or adjusting gamma. So, I am mostly IC, and sometimes OOC when helping with technical issues.
Oh, and as far as posting RP stories, I have to say that the library is a most boring place most of the time. Except for helping people, nothing really happens... well, sometimes I get the odd strange event in the dark flame room across the way.
-
Well, feel free to keep a diary or somesuch--I\'m sure you can find ways to keep it interesting; just keep it IC. As for OOC stuff, if you could keep that to tells, it\'d be great. :)

Well, I don\'t know what your character is like, but it would be fun to see a sadistic librarian who gets his kicks out of leading people the wrong direction. Everybody helps everybody these days. Why can\'t somebody ruin things for others (IC of course)? :P
And why would a good guy want to live in DR library anyway...you gotta be a little sadistic for that ;)

Heck, I\'d live there -- just imagine the sorts of things you could learn from browsing through the stacks. The Death Realm library is where books go when they\'re destroyed, right? :D
Also, it\'s fun to stand motionless behind the desk and have people assume you\'re a new NPC. Especially if they ask for a quest. ;)
-
Hah! I can see it
Player: Can I have a quest?
Sekhemet: Give you...? Get a job, freeloader!
Player: Do you have a quest for me?
Sekhemet: Give you...? Get a job, freeloader!
Player: Do you need help?
Sekhemet: ROWWR!!!!! *lunge*
Player has been killed by Sekhemet!

:D
I love spending time in the Death Realm. I have made a new character for that purpose and really enjoy that place :] I will help you if you want to get out of it, but only if you tell me a good story. I have spent too many years in Death Realm, have lost any connections to the outer world and would really like to hear, who it is now ;) And a mug of beer helps as well ;)
And I am not a librarian there. I do read a lot of books there, but you have to look for the real librarian if you have some specific needs.

I have spent quite a bit of time exploring the DR and have found several spots with clear walkways or paths, but which are completely inaccessible. I tried every which way to jump down to some spots, but always ended up getting killed. I wonder if these secret spots will ever be made accessible?

just outta curiousity, what is it about the DR that you find fascinating enough to live in? Is it that you feel closer to an evil god?

I am conflicted. A part of me wishes to be good and help people, another part wants to seek communion with evil. During this search for my true self, I spend my time in the library, thinking.

Oh, like that giant demon-head with the stairs and stone table inside it? (and no floor around the table, that was a bit of a nasty surprise...)
I\'m also curious about that top walkway that leads to the throne in the cathedral-ish hall. The first time I was in the Death Realm, I must have wasted at least half an hour trying to find a way up to it.

Unfortunately it takes you nowhere. I spent a lot of time trying to get there as well and finally took a look using walktest.

Yeah, that\'s what I ended up doing too. :)
I know it\'s cheating, but walktest and turning off the camera\'s hit testing have stopped me from going crazy trying to figure out a way to get places that there\'s not actually any way to get to.
-
Can you explain to me what walktest is and how to enable it? Some sort of cheat? Even if there is nothing in these places, I would like to check them out.
-
Walktest is a CS (Crystal Space) utility that you may either compile yourself (you\'d need to compile all of CS in that case), or if you are on Windows, download the binary (installation): scroll down for the Binary Artist Package (http://www.crystalspace3d.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=Download). Walkest is basically an application that allows you to load maps built using the Crystal Space engine, mainly for testing purposes. It is not a cheat, any more than analyzing game models with viewmesh is. Check this (http://crystalspace3d.org/docs/online/manual/cs_3.1.php) CS wiki section on walktest.

So I am thinking about writing up a back story for my kran character and was wondering if there are more sources for kran history other than what is written on the main PS site. I don\'t want to write anything that would be OOC for my story. I have done a search here in the forums but can\'t seem to locate any good kran legends and lore threads. If anybody knows of any, please post links here for me. Thanks.
