Title: biiiiig glitch!!
Post by: Javawag on December 16, 2005, 09:11:47 pm
I have just started playing PlaneShift and i have a problem! Everywhere I go, noone walks, they all slide around (no animation), people holding weapons just have the weapons spinning near them, enemies don\'t move, and I was killled by an enemy and nothing happened!! (Except it told me I couldn\'t do something as I was dead).... Next I was walking (well, sliding) around and I fell downa hole into complete blackness. The game told me that I was dead, but just left me in the blackness!?!?! Any ideas on how to solve this?

Hi there,

Yup, you\'ve got something odd happening there! Have you ran the updater since installing the game? If not, try doing that (or even try running it anyway). My guess is that you haven\'t all the files you need, and the updater should remedy that. Otherwise, maybe one of the devs can help you. Good luck!

P.S. Welcome to PlaneShift!

You do have a know bug and here is the fix...You have to run your updater if every time you update you keep getting the DR file then switch your mirror...a few mirrors were corrupted but not sure if they still are...your problem is that your old DR file has you spawning at a spot different from were the new one is....the old spot happens to have no ground below it so you continuously fall....so new uncorrupted DR file will fix that...for the animation problem mine was fixed with running the updater but some peolpe experience these animation failures because they don\'t quite meet recommened system specs...some turned off the 3D vertex buffers i think to fix it too...good luck and if it don\'t work i will try and get some more solutions...

Minimum Requirements:

* Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP, Mac OS X 10.2.6, Linux, FreeBSD or Solaris
* GeForce 2 or higher 3D graphics card
* 1 Ghz CPU
* 512 MB RAM/Actually 256 will work but depends if you have a decent graphics card or not
* 1 GB free disk space
* 56k modem Internet connection

Recommended Requirements:

* Windows XP, Mac OS X 10.2.6, Linux or FreeBSD
* GeForce 4 or higher 3D graphics card
* 2 Ghz CPU
* 1 GB RAM
* 1 GB free disk space
* Broadband Internet connection

EDIT: If you fall short of any of these requirements it could explain animation problem

I have just used the updater program and it said all files are up to date...  I would expect my computer is good enough to play the game... the only place it is lacking is in RAM (but I will buy more soon!)

Microsoft Windows XP Pro. SP2
2.0GHz AMD Athlon 64-bit
512 MB RAM (dynamically shared with graphics, so only really 384 MB)
128MB ATi Radeon onboard G/C
160 GB Hard Drive
DSL Connection (288kbps upstream, 2272kbps downstream)

I switched off the vertex buffering and now the animation is fine... but I am obviously still having the position problem! How do you switch mirror in the updater program?
