Title: This bug keeps on killing me!
Post by: planeforum on December 16, 2005, 10:30:57 pm
Hi,

I don\'t know whether to post this here or on the general server bugs forum.  Anyway, I have died a total of three times  (in the world of the living), and each time it is on the stairs leading down to the sewers behind the tavern.  Every time I\'m on the top of the stairs the graphics go all \'wonky\'.  The stairs seem to turn into an escalator, and once when I tried to turn around, the stairs rotated around me instead!  When I finally try to go back to the top, I am told I fell off the edge of the world and have died, even though there isn\'t any drop at the top of the stairs.  Then the client crashes.  When I log on again I am in the land of the dead.

Anyhow I posted this before but here it is again, my computer is a 400mhz G3 powerbook w/ 512mb.  I am using a high speed connection w/ a wifi card.  Yes I know it\'s bad.  But this IS my new computer.  It is all I can afford now.  I don\'t know my frames-per-second,  they are not displayed in my attack and status window like the guide said.  But it is slow.

I also had three other lesser problems:

a)  I mentioned this before but I have something to add.  When I start the client the start up screen uses telescoping screenshots of my desktop (picture inside a picture inside a picture).  This makes it almost impossible to log on when I am NOT in full screen mode.  If I do log on when I am NOT in full screen mode, a lot of the walls and surfaces in the game are covered with fragments of pictures from my desktop instead of their natural colors and textures.

b)  In the death world, when you turn left after leaving the tunnel to get to the first ladder, every thing is almost completely black to me until I see the ladder.  Is this true for everybody?  I can\'t tell you how often I died trying to reach that ladder, but all the experienced players run straight to it full speed.  I have to count my steps.

c)  I have also had some problems going into attack mode, especially with the right click method.  The shortcut method seems to work better, and so does switching defensive/offensive stances.  It is embarrassing to be nibbled to death by a rat while my character just stands there like a shlub :/

Anyhow, any help would be greatly appreciated,

        -ben

p.s.  If you\'ll excuse me, I have to count my steps out of the death world... again!

The first issue is known and is not just a Mac thing.

I don\'t know what\'s going on in (a) (maybe dfryer can shed some light?). Issue (b) is known and should be resolved soon (once PS starts using Jorrit\'s update light stuff from CS). :)

Hello,

Until the bug is fixed, your issue (b) can be dealt with by using Terminal. To do this, open Terminal and get into your PlaneShift directory, then run PS using the following command:

./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient -fullbright

including the period at the left. You won\'t have any more shading, but you will be able to see the things that shouldn\'t be black.

The graphical glitches are caused by the ATI Rage card\'s cries of pain.

I have exactly the same error all is black in the dead world.
The fullbright did not do the trix.

On Radeon 6900 XT 128 MB, Os X 10.4.0.3,  dual 2.0, 8.5g ram

Was calling for help in the game notice that almost nobody could  see anything.
No one did`nt have a clue.

Most of Mac users have problems with Death Realm and Ojaroad. It might be related to big endian and little endian encoding. If you start Planeshift setup, you will find an option to relight maps. It should help you with the Death Realm, but crash with Ojaroad.

Seeing that you have tried (or trying) to build the server, I suggest you try building walktest that is part of CrystalSpace. Walktest can be used to relight maps and many Mac users would appreciate that if you could make these relighted maps available ;)

Nothings happend when I select the map and press relight.
If I start from the terminal with:
./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient -relight
The apps just hang?

No, it just takes forever to relight ;) At least 1 hour for me. Or if you have \"Load all maps\" option enabled, a day or more for you.
