Title: use more /roll
Post by: Bebel on December 19, 2005, 03:18:37 am
i don\' like this :
\" /me try to push xxx away from the chair\"
\"xxx resist and stay at his place without moving \"
because i always loose ... and it\'s like rp on an irc chan or msn and ignoring the PS potential

i would like this :

\" /me try to pushes xxx\" ( /roll 100d + strenght and it gives the result automatically)
\" xxx try to resist \" ( /roll 100d + stenght and compares the result )
we can roll, like the rpg with pen and paper but in 3D, why don\' t we use it ?
what i would like is that we could tape /roll 6d + stats

is it possible for devs to do this ?

/me try to charm the dev\'s ( /roll 100d + char100 = 200) i won :D

The mechanics are already there.  People just have to use them.

That\'s the thing about Planeshift..... players have the power to make it what they want it to be.

At least that\'s what people believe until they\'re here for two years ;D

Anyway, we\'ve been using dice system to combat in MB, a bit. you can use dice in CB too, just keep in mind you\'ll need to send a lot of /tell\'s from time to time to explain the mechanics ;)

i just know we could do this command : /roll 6d but i din\'t know we could do /roll 6d + agility ....

edit : no it didn\'t work with \"+ agility or any stats \"

what i ask is to add this command \" + stats \' on /roll xxd

see this thread: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=19339&boardid=13&styleid=3&sid=73b4e35ab391a8a0e1fa2fb57f0a9b96
Not exactly what you were looking for, but I prefere leaving it up to the players as it\'s our story to tell, not that of chance.  This thread instructs on how to do this fairly.  Remember that role-playing is not about winning, but about role playing.

Did I say that power was complete?  NO.

Eh, just forget it :P
You won\'t understand what I mean, yet. And I don\'t mean to put it out bluntly in case that after those two years you\'ll think otherwise anyway. The fact is most people don\'t.

I have read it , i like the idea but why the oppenants are always unfair ?
for exemple \" you can\'t kill me , i m not really in this world i live in another plan but i can kill you /me cast a thunder light that fries your body \" .... what can i respond to that ? maybe \" /me dodges \" ?

/me walks away

And maybe after enough time, you\'ll even grow out of talking down to people.

edit:  PMing did not work.  If you already see it in such light, there is little to nothing I can do to change your opinion.

In forum combat situtations you could use a die roll plus post count!

Something like /roll 1000d + postcnt

:P

Ralas, while your idea is right, you need to consider that it can\'t always work.
Take the seasoned fighter, veteran of many wars, lean, fit, and agile. He\'s fighting a pudgy old merchant with a dagger he just bought yesterday. We all know how that\'s going to end, so it isn\'t really an issue, assuming both people roleplay well. Your system works fine here (again, assuming good roleplay).

But what if we have two even combatants, two lean, fit, and agile veterans? It\'s likely that no one will win; that\'s where chance--i.e. the dice--comes in. There\'s also the issue of one person being outmatched slightly, and winning by chance. I think that the command described above should be implemented, though I admit stats are not that useful now, due to the fact that almost everyone has very high stats. Eventually, though, stats will mean more, and then this command will be useful. :)
