Title: How to deal with auto defend
Post by: Kirk on December 27, 2005, 04:57:19 am
If I get something wrong or irritate, sorry.

It seems combat has become rather tricky since the changes.  When monsters initiate the attack I usually stand there not raising an arm and get hit over and over.  I know I have changed to bloody stance because the incoming damage and frequency of hits are vastly increased.  I have tried repeatedly attacking a creature as I get close to them (so that I never see \"The target is out of range.\" message) and this helps a little bit.  Half the time I have to abort the attack all together after taking great damage and never swinging a single time.  I have also tried backing off, clearing the target, stopping the attack, and starting a new attack but sometimes the full defense stance will kick back in before I can start the new attack.

The only time I seem to have a fair go at it is when I am standing at the spawn spot and I attack the creature as soon as it spawns.

Do you have any techniques or tricks to avoid these pitfalls?

I\'ve found that if the monster is attacking you and your character isn\'t fighting back even though you have a bloody stance selected, try stopping the fight(the X just to the right of full defensive button) and then re-selecting the bloody stance, or aggressive, or whatever.

Bah! I\'ve had the same problem. I killed the rogue in Akkaio\'s warehouse to help out a new player, and after that, I was auto-attacking everything. If I was even close to a monster, I would go into full-defense mode and begin attacking. It wasn\'t until I left the city that it stopped.

It\'s not normally a big problem for me since I don\'t fight often, but it was then and I know it\'s annoying for other players who experience it. It was frustrating for me as I was trying to teach the new player how to attack something, and instead I kept on \"taking\" the rat.

right click the start atk shortcut
add a line with the command /stopattack
then your /attack
It will stop the default stance then start a normal attack
you can also specify a different stance as a parameter of /attack #
1 to 5 for bloody to full defence

Thank you Golmir, I was trying to figure how to set Bloody in my Attack shortcut.

Try this as solution to the issue(I really need to stay away from call centers, don\'t I?):

Make this shortcut

/target next nearest npc
/attack # x

You can run in on target and engage before their sequence sets up.  That\'s the theory anyway.
