I\'ve been lost in death world for about 2 hours now.
Where do you go? Why do they make it ridiculously impossible and long to get out of it?
-
Ask someone ingame to find the way out... It is hard at first, I know, but it is easier once you know the way... Good luck.

Just wait until you find someone else, then follow them.

Look what I found :)

Everyone goes to the death realm, but the reason why PCs come back from there is because we\'re so smart and clever and all, and because we\'re all supposed to be heroes. However, eventually it won?t be as easy to get out as it is now. You\'ll have to go through a lot of things to get back up on the ground, and among the commoners, that\'s thought of as an impossible thing to do.

Hi
Please remember that the Death Realm, like most areas in game, are still under development. It currently resembles more of a path than realm, making it easy to escape for those who know the way. That will change in the future when the DR is expanded both area- and activity-wise.
Death Realm is supposed to be one of the darkest places in PlaneShift. You can increase monitor brightness a bit, if you can\'t see anything. That situation will further ease once we get carryable light sources and player created maps implemented.
Also we don\'t yet have much tutorials for new players; people are sent straight in the middle without a clue what to do or even how the controls work. That too will change in the future. The step into the game will be smoothened. :)
Thanks for reading and have fun exploring.

The problem is that the death realm was expanded to help punish experienced players, but it\'s the novice players who are affected the most by the change. I remember being new and getting stuck when the death realm was much smaller than it is right now. I ended up deleting my character and starting over again.
Since PS doesn\'t have levels, it\'s difficult to send new players to one death realm and experienced players to a more advanced one, but I think it\'s a necessity. Here\'s hoping that such a feature appears later on?
-
In a fact Death Realm is another world to explore. Right now people take it as a punishment, but it doesn\'t have to be so. There are already some crazy people (like me :P), who spend most of their time in Death Realm, because it is so beautiful (many thanks to Cherppow :) ).
Once the Death Realm gets more life, perhaps creatures to hunt and maybe even quests, it wouldn\'t be too bad that finding your way out takes some time.
Hey, we already have a librarian there, I have also met a princess of Death Realm. For a roleplayer Death Realm is a wonderful place to roleplay. Only those who want to level up ASAP may find it as a punishment, because right now there is nothing to loot.
-
Speaking of the Librarian, I hear he\'s known to occasionally help the Yliakan in need.
-
Well for someone who\'s just arrived in the game it must seem as unpleasant but I can assure you you\'ll grow to like that place...On one hand since you\'ll wind up there MORE than enough...On the other because indeed it\'s a fine place to RP..and just looks cool :)
Only sad thing is that right now it is a bit straightforward. You wouldn\'t expect it if you don\'t know the way out, but it IS really straightforward...I see much places, out of reach, waiting for me to walk over them, climb them...But hey, Maybe once I will :D
Toodles

don\'t go into any rooms

The way I thought of that the FR could be improved as an experience is that there could be differnet spawn points determined by the number of times you have died.
So the first 5 (say) times you die you spawn somewhere on the lower walkway, next 5 on the upper walkway and thereafter in the current start cave. As the DR is expanded spawn points are added deeper in the realm or in more puzzling places and maybe even random places for the really suicidal.
It would be necessary to keep track of the number of deaths each character has, but there could also be some high level spells that reduce a players death memories (reduce the recorded deaths total) which may give players a method to buy their way out of the DR a little quicker provided someone performed the spell on them before they died. ( The spell can only be performed outside the DR and you cannot perform the spell on yourself.)
Just some random ideas on improvements from some who, after only a month of playing now regards the DR as just a minor inconvienience or even a shortcut to get back to the Plazza from places in the wilds.

Ha, yes, it\'s much quicker to get back to hydlaa from oja via the death realm rather than actually walking!
-
Sure, if your character is the kind to treat life so lightly as to sacrifice him or herself every time walking is inconvenient ;) Don\'t do this for OOC reasons like lazyness.
-
Yeah i know what you mean. Even i, a game master couldn\'t find my way out. I had to follow a player until i figured how to get out.
Trust me no one says its easy but once you find it on your own you get a much greater satisfaction then just following someone out.

In a perfect RPG world players wouldn\'t do this... but I\'m sure people do it all the time. Just like everyone runs. You ever see anybody walking?
But then again, how would I know, I just sit in the death realm library all day :P
-
I see plenty of people walking ;) You want a perfect RPG? Contribute to it.
-
Well the main reason people have been running a lot lately is that walking became a lot slower than it used to be. Running pretty much = old walking. It might have been fixed, though... I wasn\'t paying attention today. :P

Hey, I run in real-life, why can\'t my character do it in PS? (note: PS as in PlaneShift NOT as in PlayStation)

Hold down LShift (default) will make your charakter run.
-
Peeg, that\'s not what he meant :) I\'m more than sure that he knows the game commands after all his time here. The conversation was about characters choosing to walk instead of running. And while there is nothing wrong with sprinting from place to place, I can guarantee that many characters will look at you oddly if you mention that you commit suicide just to get from one place to another quicker.

What really boggles my mind is that if you are typing PS instead of planeshift, chances are you are doing it to type less. But, in this case not only did you still type Planeshift in full you also added about three times the writing...curious, no?
