I have heard of reportings of people selling common items as if they were rare items. For instance someone selling a broadsword to someone else for 5k saying it was a High damage weapon. Make sure you check your items before buying (move the cursor over your itme in the trade window and make sure it has the correct modifiers ie. a FROSTY dagger).
I suspect that these many scammings are linked to one another and there is a guild somewhere out there made up solely of theives. People beware!
We must seek these people out and get rid of them if they are indeed a guild, if not, then watch out and report who has tried to scam you at our board in the Dark Shadows forums.
www.freeweb.com/dsgsite (the link to the forums is there).

I know that someone named Kolossus has been trying to recruit members to create a new guild... \"The Guild Of Theives\".
-
Just a note on this issue: One of the features I\'ve added for the next release, is the ability to view an item/container by right-clicking. (or whatever you have set to the context menu) And, I specifically added this to the exchange window, to allow for the inspection of offers.
-
If this is out-of-character scamming, take it to the GMs and the devs. If it\'s in-character, however, deal with it in-character. ;) It may be hard to tell, but usually you can figure things out from \"telling\" someone you catch scamming you. Even if they don\'t tell you outright which it is, it\'s usually pretty easy to tell if they\'re roleplay or just exploiting people out-of-character.

To be honest...
A \"Guild of Thieves\" is a good idea, in general - if it is done in a good roleplaying style. Thieves are supposed to defraud in trades. But thieves are also in danger to be caught, and be judged...
I\'m just afraid that beginners will not see the good parts of thieving in a role-playing game. Only experienced players may be able to join the game inside it.
-
...but you couldn\'t CALL yourselfs \"thieves\" in the guild name... I mean...that\'s...just stupid. \"Oh, look at his guild name. Don\'t trade with him.\" That\'s called backfiring.
-
Guild names aren\'t supposed to be available for viewing anyway, so good roleplayers tend to ignore them. Besides, there is always the option to make the guild \"secret,\" and thus not show up beneath the character names.
-
There are secret guilds, you know... ;)
EDIT: Kary beat me. :P
-
I realize this kind of stealing is roleplaying...perhaps i put this in the wrong board??
-
Well... the thread is rather OOC now, but you could make a real RP-IC one in the In-Game Roleplay section :)
-
ie copy and paste?
-
Removing all OOC references (about trade windows and cursors, etc.) and perhaps imagining your character to be making a speech in a crowded plaza :) Immerse yourself in the atmosphere. I\'d recommend a rewrite.

AHHH! ok. will do, thx for the help/constructive criticism/ wutever...i\'ll get on it...
EVERYONE GO TO THE ONE IN THE ROLEPLAY SECTION!!!
-
IC? but is this IC if no roleplaying goes with it? I mean if someone shouts an offer and simply states what it is and when you trade in good faith and it doesn\'t turn out to be what promised???
I mean what are you supposed to do? Learn all names by heart and know how they modify stuff? I mean in RL you wouldn\'t be fooled that easely if you knew anything about weapons and be honost almost everyone has a weapon skill of above 10 so it\'s kinda unbelievable that you would mistake the worst for the best :P
PS: at this time I think it\'s mostly an OOC problem becuase you can\'t check whats given to you. Specially seeing the victims don\'t seem to be roleplayers I highly doubt that the thieves are roleplayers.
