Title: Monstors run away now after a distance attack
Post by: Bleegoingus on January 15, 2006, 01:59:34 am
... i had been for the last week drawing trepors to me using my magic missile. Now when it hits them, they run off in a random direction.

I guess they just wised up to you...  :P

Yes, others have reported weird AI things like this.

I\'m having similar issues.  Anytime I get near a monster I go into automatic defense mode (major pain in the rear), and then I have to chase the critter down cause it runs away from me when I try to target it.

And a couple of times it was hitting me but not doing any damage, and I wasn\'t hitting it at all till I backed off, stopped attack and started over.

I don\'t know, I kinda like it.  If you\'re smart enough to run away from, say an ulber, how come a tef can\'t be smart enough to run away from you?  This could also bring different attitudes of monsters into play more.  A more agressive npc would run at you when attacked, while a less one, or scared one would run away.  Also, it could depend on your level, if an npc can determine an approximate of how strong you are, it could dictate whether it runs or stays.  Also if a npc would attack you to begin with.  A rogue could atack a new player, but if it sees a higher level character it won\'t as it would know it would loose, rather than now when it attacks just eveything.

Edit: teach me to leave the reply box open for two hours while I actually work at work.

This would only be realistic if the Rogue has strength-analyzing magic, or visual hints such as heavy armor and a colorful array of weapons on a character.

What about the intellegence stat then?

When ever you view the dexcription of another player, if your intellegence is high enough, it gives you an approximate of their strength compared to yours.  Why couldn\'t a rogue have that ability too?  That\'s what I meant.

edit: typos

I don\'t think the current system is realistic either :P What is your character basing this on? Someone could be roleplaying a character wrapped entirely in a heavy cloak that hides the whole form - there would be no way to estimate how powerful that someone would be. Intelligence doesn\'t (or shouldn\'t) automatically let you know the power of another - where is the sense in that? ;)

What? you don\'t think that enki have special mind powers that let them know things like this?  After all, we are built for hunting.  (sorry, I could debate this all day, I like to debate.)  Anyways, yeah, that never made much sense to me either, but what the hay.  If it\'s there, just say its related to magic and you\'re good.  Magic explains everything. ;)

Heheh xD And you could say /tells are magic telepathy, but that, and this, requires a rewrite of the entire setting, which isn\'t happening. I just hope this goes away o.O

Karyuu prods someone suspiciously looking like stfrn.
