not too sure what this is all about but yeah.. seen them live a few times.

I\'ve never seen them live, but they were really popular when I was in highscool. Insomiac is a great album.
I\'m more into Jawbreaker though. Well, really into Jawbreaker, since they\'re my favourite band. Greenday is way down on the list.
-
Me me! I like Green Day!!
Never seen them live though. *looks jealously at Drey*
-
Greeeenday... *shivers*
I find them horrible, and absolutely not my taste of music... but that\'s all just a matter of taste :)
EDIT: Nevermind the edit, deleted something from the post that was probably inappropriate :D
-
green day....
They have had better times. I liked them more when they were a punk band,, in the 80\'s/90\'s. They are still good, but I consider them adult alternative now. Dont add me to the list.
-
My friends older brother used to listen to them... so we listened to them because he was cool.

I think Nimrod is the best album.

The best was in a crowd of like 60000 at milton keynes national bowl :P

green day = 2 thumbs up

I have that one and a few others sitting around somewhere. I don\'t remember liking them as much.

Let me put it this way...enough that I\'ll listen to them, not enough that I think a whole thread should be contributed to them.
Now, Bouncing Souls, they\'re definately thread-worthy.

Bouncing Souls isn\'t terrible.
-
Greenday have some songs that are good to listen to....
now Tenicious D...they deserve a thread made out of gold :D
-
I like some of green days stuff. Not all but some....
-
WOOOOOOOO Bouncing Souls!
You\'re so rad than my dad
If you were a fabric you\'d be plaid
Everybody knows plaid is so rad
I think about you and I go mad
You\'re so rad you really spark my nads
Some say you\'re good but I know you\'re bad
If you go I\'ll be sad
Stop the presses run an ad
If there were three of you you\'d be a rad triad
You\'re so rad
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Anyway, Green Day....hmmm. They were good (Kerplunk and Dookie)....then they were cool (Insomniac)....then they were sellouts (Nimrod)....now they\'re alright (Warning and American Idiot)...
I don\'t think the Bouncing Souls or Green Day deserve threads....they\'re good bands but I think Operation Ivy would be more deserving.
Edit: As a sidenote, anyone hear of the movie Tim Armstrong (of Rancid, Op Ivy, the Transplants.....) and Billy Joe (of Green Day) are putting out on Hellcat Records (Armstrong\'s label)? It\'s called Live Freaky! Die Freaky!

OOO OOO I hate Green Day! :)
-
Preach Efflixi, preach!
What we need to make is a System of a Down thread :D
-
Eh, they\'re not bad, I really don\'t think an entire thread is necessary O.o \"What kind of music does everyone like? I like green day\" probably would have left room for more discussion. But that\'s just me.

i had no grudge against them earlier on
its not my type of music(i like Iced Earth and Metallica and such) so i really didnt pay them any mind
......
but........
the lead sing of the band said Quote: \"playing todays punk rock is harder than playing something Jimmy Page wrote\"
now for those of us who know who Jimmy Page(guitarist for Led Zeppelin) is, know and understand how ignorant that comment was
there is my grudge with Greenday

D:
No way...
Jimmy Page owns Billie Joe, i mean seriously. Page is insane beyond belief. Next thing you know it, Billie is going to say \"Ya, I sh*t on John Petrucci\"
Karyuu-[ Edited to remove non-happy word. ]
Taser-[It was out of anger. No one says that they are better than page D: ]
-
Greenday-- yuck!
My local radio station plays them everyday, once an hour. At this point all I hear when I listen to them is a gravely whiney voice and moronic melody.
-
yea the guy has an invisible vampire clothes peg on his nose that feeds off his ability to sing and not sound like having a clothes peg on his nose.

Actually, he\'s right. I\'ve been playing guitar for over a decade, and modern punkrock is far more technical than classic rock a la Led Zepplin. Don\'t get me wrong -- classic rock is more tasteful, but modern punk is far harder to play. Just listen to NOFX if you have any doubt.
I\'m not saying it\'s good music! But it is harder to play.

Eric Melvin is the man! El Hefe is a cool dude too.
I agree though. When my sister was playing guitar she learned on playing Led Zep stuff. Afterwards she progressed to ska and other styles.
I\'ve always been a fan of good bassists myself. Fat Mike, Matt Freeman, and pretty much anyone who plays upright bass in a psychobilly band.
Anyways....I sure hope Billy Joe wasn\'t talking about the band\'s earlier stuff when he made that quote about Jimmy Page....I was in a band in high school and the first song we ever attempted was Brain Stew by Green Day because it was so ridiculously easy (along with a few other songs).
-
Have you listened to the whole album Insomiac? Brainstew has to be the easiest song on it. It\'s also the easiest to listen to, which is probably why it was chosen by the label as the single.

Back in the day when it came out I\'m sure I did. I don\'t remember many songs off that one though...mainly Brain Stew and Geek Stink Breath (the popular ones).

Green Day were fine back when they were newish. Getting popular and having to make radio-friendly-crap kills most bands in my opinion.
-
and tool needs a new internet dedicated to them :D

While i agree that they were more palatable back when they were new, if you listen to even their 39/smooth stuff it was always pop (bubblegum) oriented, light and ready for mainstream access. Selling out was only an issue for me insomuch as the liner notes for \"39/smoothed out slappy hours\" bothered to reprint a very hardnosed letter they sent to major record execs telling them they just wouldn\'t leave lookout records as a matter of principle (I can\'t remember the exact phrasing, but they bascially said \"They\'re Our Freinds!!!\").
Anywho. I saw them live in a grange hall in Mckinleyville, CA back around the time 39/smooth was making the rounds. The stage was like, a foot tall, and they headlined with, like, Fifteen and a half-dozen crappy local bands. they were tight, but pissed most of us off because their set was only 45 minutes long. Still, they were tight, and blew my doors off with their energy.
A couple years back I saw them in much less intimate setting in San Francisco, and I got to say, \"Big\" Green Day is far less interesting to listen to than \"lil\" Green Day was back in the day. It was disappointing, to put it mildly. They threw out standard rock phrases, seemed to meander through one pretentious tune after another, and I left the show feeling pretty cheated. I\'m not sure what the word is for it, but I reacted to their enormous stage, and overblown egos negatively.
So, there. I\'m a qualified \"admirer\" of Green Day, I suppose.

Eeek! I missed that little exchange. I\'m not going to weigh in on either side, but shoot, Green Day doesn\'t hold up to scrutiny against either Jimmy Page OR Nofx.

So what? I thought the comparison was between classic rock and punk, not between classic rock and Greenday. Greenday is easy.

No, it\'s true. I really have been playing guitar that long! Drums and piano longer and more seriously, flute on and off for as long as guitar.
