Why do Mac people always believe they invented the GUI and Microsoft stole it from them?  Microsoft may be evil, but they certainly didn\'t steal the GUI, because Win1.0/3.1 completely sucked!  Worst GUI\'s ever!  Apple MAC\'s had a good GUI, Atari ST\'s had a good GUI, Amiga\'s has a good GUI.  And there was always X-windowing system for unix systems.  Microsofts GUI was horrible, so I don\'t see that they copied from anyone, because EVERYBODY had better GUI\'s than MS!

Actually, they did steal the GUI. They just badified it. Apple patented the \"window,\" the \"menu,\" and a bunch of other things like that. Microsoft then proceeded to use them. Apple foolishly settled the ensuing court case in such a way that Microsoft was permitted to use these items in future releases... And then Microsoft out-marketed Apple and led to today\'s situation of suckiness.

Now, I thought Xerox invented the \"window\" and \"menus\"?

On another note, I hate patents.  How could any company back then (or now) patent something as generic as \"window\" (an area of your screen to display a related/grouped set of items) or \"menus\" (any method of listing options).  I think all patents should be wiped out.  Copyright on specific and unique products are fine... but how can you put ownership onto an idea?  That\'s just wrong.

warcry @ bill gates lawl.
cannot ever kill the mac users, we have a stable system!  it  doesnt shut down every other click,  doesnt freeze every other second, and dosnt cantract half asmany viruses as windows does.
you woulda  thought that they would have at least tried to fix the stability of windows by now, I mean having over 11 years of computer company.  buuuut....

only because no one bothers to write viruses to target mac security bugs, why bother when they make up less than 8% (this figure seems to range from 5 - 12% depending on who you talk to, i chose something in between the two to avoid arguments) of the OS market?

and Zanzibar, you should be safe uninstaling Norton as long as you have something running in its place

I believe he was being sarcastic as in why should he uninstall norton when all that was offered to replace it was avast or avg.

I\'m not going to get into an argument over whats better. better is an opinion anyway.  I\'m happy with AVG, and I take it he is happy with norton.

I\'m not sure if this thread was meant to be about antivirus tools, but to add my 2ct:

H+BEDV AntiVir Personal Edition (http://www.free-av.de) - free for personal use, and in german.

So probably not very common outside D-A-CH. But has a few advantages -e.g. searching as well for things that are not really viruses, but still may annoy or distract you from working.

Sorry - I just found an english page (http://www.free-av.com/), so there may be an english program version as well.
