I have just found Planeshift and absolutely love it !!!!
now the but.....
my navigational skills are not too good at the best of times, even with a compass and a map I can run off in the wrong direction. I seriously enjoy mining, crafting, blacksmithing and such and people have been very helpful in pointing me in the right direction for NPC\'s and gold. My problem will be though when I find other minerals/gems etc .... I\'ll never remember where everything is. I have no idea how big the Planeshift world is, ways in and out, number of other cities etc. I do enjoy exploring and finding new things but the more items and locations I find, the more I lose track of.
Is there a way of displaying the coordinates I am at so I can keep my own notes ?
Is there a map and/or compass I am missing ?
e.g. When I read the book on mining by the smithy, it said \"North of the Magic shop\" (or similar), but I had no way of knowing which way was north.
I was tempted to post this in Newbie Help, but thought it would make a good discussion point while the server was down.

If you check out the \'/help\' command, there should be a command listed in there that displays what coordinate you\'re currently at, though I don\'t think it\'ll be there in the future, since it\'s for debuging features.
Some of the guild web pages have maps of where you can find some of the key locations in the game.
Personally though, I would just memorise things. After playing for a few days, I have most of it down pretty well. It just takes a little bit of concentration.

some tips:
the area with the big statue in the middle is the plaza, the \'smithy\' you speak of is Harnquists, a popular hang out.
also it generally accepted that the statue faces about south (though i cant be 100% sure if thats right... after a few days you will know it all without needing landmarks)
