Hello, my name is Halrik.
I loaded the game some days ago, and because of the server-problems I did not play yet.
Well additionally, I didnt want to play cuz I wanted to learn a bit more about the game from the players guide and from this forum.
As I have now read those FAQs and some threads here, Planeshift seems to be like this to me:
When the server is on, all people run around and chase rats and stuff in the sewers. The problem at this point is that all spawn-points are croweded by hunters, so we wont get any of those rats cuz someone will be faster all the time. Actually then after some hunting we decide to do a quest. Those seem to be hard to find, but when we finally find one, then we cant finish it cuz i doesnt work.
And while we travel around the world we die probably a thousand times beacause of falling down from somewhere.
This is my very darkened impression, I dont want to talk badly about this game, please get me right! I just want to hear that my impression is wrong and i will love to play PS... :-)
And...HELLO! to everyone here...
-
Hello Halrik and welcome! My name is Bereror and I can confirm that your impressions about the game are absolutely correct :P
I even have some quotes for you from http://qdb.ps-mc.com/ :D
http://qdb.ps-mc.com/?144 (http://qdb.ps-mc.com/?144)
Venge: Isn\'t it funny how we talk for years about all these grandiose plans for our new kind of MMORPG, and then when we finally deliver it turns out to be just a rat killing game? :)
http://qdb.ps-mc.com/?1 (http://qdb.ps-mc.com/?1)
The intent of the game is to make newbies kill rats
http://qdb.ps-mc.com/?241 (http://qdb.ps-mc.com/?241)
looks like the sewers are nicely populated
populated with rats or newbs?
Tuxide: is there any difference? :)
yeah...the number of eyes

But what about the roleplay? :P

The things we have to deal with... :P
-
LOL @ Bereror
That made me laugh :D But hey...PS is still good and improving :D
-
i think for one thing if you ask the hunters there is a liklyness of them sharing withyou. once you get over killing rats you go kill other things and do what quests you can find(atm untill you cant go any farther) on them it does envolve asking around but you can find some intresting ones, and have some fun while your at it maybe get a group of newbies together and roleplay a quest to help each other. anyway just try it and have fun. :D see you in game!

Hello all,
Unfortunately, for the role playing aspect of PS, most people out there probably havn\'t been exposed to role playing and treat PS like what they\'re used to: a video game. Perhaps we could organize some sort of RP events geared toward new folks. Maybe this could help to instill the spirit of RP into the \"younger generations.\"
-
Every path you take, every forest you wander should be in RP ..................
and of course always kill the rats in RP, that way they come back to life, and you get to kill them over and over, and then wander to Harnquist (in RP of course) and sell them, and then .............
you get to do it all over again.
But more seriously, I have only been playing 2 or 3 days, I have met people I would like to call friends (yes already) ... ALOT of very helpful people, I have been mining, getting killed by Rogues, spent time travelling in the Death Realm (looking for a way out, but enjoying it), exploring, getting killed by Rogues, increasing my experience and exploring further and further.
My advice to you Halrik is this ........
You have gone to the trouble of downloading the game, the least you should do is give it a try. The system crashes have been unfortunate, but for a good reason ... bring on the Crafting !!! a consequence of striving for a better, improved game for evryone.
As far as the rats are concerned, I really have only done that cycle 4 or 5 times, I don\'t need the rats anymore.
-
Well, yes, i would like to give it a try but everytime I log in, i only see a black screen and my char appears every 15 seconds...
i think somethings wrong with my hardware acceleration.
But i quite know how to roleplay, so i am not a newbie in that part of the game :-)
-
As for hardware acceleration, I remember seeing a tip appear when I logged in. It implied that you could turn on (or off) something in options to make running on a slower pc more acceptable. I\'m sorry I can\'t be more specific but maybe the player guide or technical help stickies may be worth browsing. Try the search bar and then if unsuccesful maybe ask in the Technical help forums.
edit - This is a hell of a helpful crowd on here.
-
*Laughs,* Not too helpful, are we? If you are a good roleplayer there is much more to the game than killing monsters and things. A useful command to know is
/me
For example:
/me smiles cheerfully.
would appear as:
/ smiles cheerfully.
It\'s really a boost to the roleplay experience to not have to use asterisks all the time, but don\'t think of it as setting aside time to roleplay when you do it in PS. Think of it as setting aside time to talk out of character when you do it in PS. Everywhere you go, you can roleplay. There are some useful commands such as
/greet
That have been implemented that only help to the roleplay experience. To many of the newer users, PlaneShift, as stated before in this thread, is treated as a video game.
... Well, it is sort of a video game.
But my point is, ingore the buggy-alpha-ness (New word! Yay!) and just go out there and roleplay! Have fun!

Assuming you meet the minimum requirements (stickied in one of the Technical Help sections), this could simply be a graphics driver issue. Try updating to the latest version.
Do you actually get a \"No Hardware Acceleration\" message when you first load the client?
-
yes, I do... it says
\"planeshift.canvas.openglwin
No Hardware acceleration!\"
just when I start the client..
I really love things like that, really...:-(
-
Ah! Well :) ?No Hardware Acceleration? usually means you either:
1.) Have very outdated drivers for your graphics card
2.) Have a very outdated graphics card, or
3.) Have a distinct lack of anything that could be considered a graphics card
Solve this by:
1.) Updating your graphics card drivers from the manufacturer\'s website
2.) Buy a new graphics card, or
3.) Buy a graphics card :P

Iv got a question to everyone who plays PS and knows about it, Yes i have played RPG games but can someone give me and example or idea of it?
Much aprettiated
Thx

RPG games are Role-Play Games, so what it basically means is that you act as your character, instead of the person sitting behind the computer or on the couch with a controller :) You\'re no longer acting like your Earth self, but the character on your screen - an elf, a dwarf, an Enkidukai, or something quite different like the Kran. You put yourself in the game world (Yliakum) entirely, and try to act as your character might. That means you have to have some ideas concerning your character\'s personality, history, and some behaviors. It can be quite fun thinking all this through and making your choices. This is the part of the character that matters most in PlaneShift - his or her personality, the way he or she acts. So when you\'re out slaying monsters, you have to do it in the way your character would do it - he may be a bloodthirsty Enkidukai, or a careful Diaboli assassin, etc. There is a really handy Guide to Roleplay (http://planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=10310&boardid=19&styleid=4) in the Hydlaa Plaza section of the forum that may explain this concept better than I can at the moment ;)
But that\'s the basic summary of it.
-
Maybe you\'re just hanging out with the wrong crowd?

lol...with the rat problem....if u go deeper into the sewers...u can find ALOT more rats...but with that u also find alot stronger creature....but u can always run away :-D....and if u mage....u just mage while walking away from the creature...thats the only reason i live as a mage...walking away while maging...yay!
and also...meet alot of people...and i have had so much fun with people on here...like me and my friend...bushy....we had been talking on there...and he came up and challenged me....so i accepted...and ran away maging him...and he got really mad...so he ran away...and he tried to hide but i kept on hitting him with summon arrow....(which goes throught walls) :-D....we got so lost in the sewers...it was halarious....we had no clue how to get out...so then i fell down somewhere and i was supposed to die...but i didn\'t...and i just walked around in this square thing in the sewer and there was no way out...so i unstuck...and it auto forfeighted the challenge...i was mad....but then we grouped and went out and did a bunch of other stuff like killing monsters......and then the flipping server crashed...and now here i am...posting a long message on this forum.....and sorry for the .....................(dots)...its the way i type on myspace and aim....its a habit...

I\'ve been playing for a week, and though some times I thougt the game was \"boring and repetitive\" I realised that the fun is not related to how different types of enemies do you have, the important thing is what you can do with other people, and turning a \"boring rat killing spree\" into a \"funny rat hunting\"
In a brief way, \"Stay because of the people, not because of the game system\"
