Title: G.M. IC title
Post by: defender43 on February 03, 2006, 04:34:24 am
I think GM\'s (Game Masters) need a more IC title. Like \"High Wizards of Yliakum\" or something. Something that reflects theire powers, but referenceth not to a \"game\". Any ideas?

Not really - Game Masters are completely OOC. They don\'t roleplay with their characters, although some may choose to do it during < 1% of their time in-game. Game Masters deal with OOC conflicts between players, not characters, move stuck avatars, report bugs, test features, etc.  If ever forced into an RP situation, they may choose to say that they are workers of the gods, but this happens so rarely as to be nearly insignificant.

Leave them as is - easily recognizable for what they are, instead of mistaken for members of \"regular\" guilds.

Oh. And I would\'ve gotten away with it, too, if it hadn\'a been for you meddling kids...  :P

(what is that a reference to? Brownie points for first correct)

Do you really think there\'s that many people who wouldn\'t know?.....

I think it is a pity to see \"Game Master\" under their names anyway, if you are trying to be IC.
It is a bit \"anachronistyc\" and might ruin a bit the atmosphere, even if their role has to be OOC.

Under the new rules, you shouldn\'t even be seeing GMs unless they need to appear to solve a problem (for instance, if they have to talk to large group at once). If you see GMs wandering around visible or roleplaying, PM Talad about it.

Scoobie Doo were are you? ;)

Well think gamemasters is indeed a truely OOC position atm, but making them more IC might not be a bad idea for the fun of it allS

Simply put:  If the difference between a giant fluorescent name and another giant fluorescent name that also says \"Game Master\" is enough to destroy the game for you... you\'re screwed.  ;)

But yeah, GMs should largely be invisible or loitering near Harnquist waiting for questions.

I think the labels are too big, distractive and not really RPG. I don\'t think this is such a big news.

Of course, it depends from
1) what do you intend for RPG
2) how you want to play
3) the quality of the RPG you want around.

Your taste.

That different people want different things is pretty obvious ;)

Until characters can be differentiated by hair/head/eye/body/clothes changes, labels are kind of essential.

[don\'t know why this is in the quote, but this is mine--Gripen] I don\'t understand how this can actually be, since there are games (roll dice) in the game, and they are the ones who usually organize the games in the arena and such.
I never saw it as any different than another guild name.
There seem to be at least a few guilds with less than straight laced RPG names--Game masters is as close to IC as most of the guilds.

You mean there are rules for GMs that prohibit them from playing? That\'s no fun. Wonder what the purpose of that would be.

That doesn\'t mean they can\'t play PS, it just means that they can\'t play PS in their GM characters. GMs are official characters for mediating OOC problems, ie. bad names, jerks ect., And are not for idle playing. Besides, can you imagine how hard it would be for a character with a GM label to RP without constantly being bugged for favors :D?

although there are disadvantages to turning off the name labels all together, isnt it possible to turn off the guid part of the player name?

that way other than the colour difference there wouldent be anything noticalbly different about a GM label,

Hiding the guild label is possible only if the guild is marked as \"secret.\" But there\'s no reason to do this, really. I don\'t know anyone for whom the \"Game Master\" label disrupts roleplay, since if a GM is visible, he or she is taking care of OOC problems in the first place.

like others have said, we can play fine... just not as the GM chars, that would give us some massive advantage.. what with being able to just appear where we wanted, being immune to fall damage, not being able to be attacked, never running out of stamina... and so on.

though seeing as its things that need to be done more time is usualy put into GMing than into playing with out own chars.

you used to, or at least i could at one point, pick out GMs by them being the ones with the funny stabby and pointy sheilds.
