Title: Ynnwns... a question about them
Post by: Aradia on February 17, 2006, 09:58:39 pm
\"For common genetic rules, an individual will have a prevailing race that will determine its physical traits. For this reason, the main races are relatively pure. In other words, it can\'t happen that the races merge together forming a single mixed race: if someone has a Lemur father and an elf mother, he will belong to one race or to the other.\"

\"The Ynnwn race is a strange but relatively frequent crossing between a Diabolo and an Elf. \"

^^ Taken from the PS guide about races.

So, I ask this question: Did I miss something?

It says that races will not mix, but Ynnwns are clearly a mix. I\'m not complaining, but merely showing a bit of contradicting things in the game. :-)

(I searched for this. I apologize if this has already been discussed before.)

They\'re a rare exception to the rule.

There are a lot of other things that don\'t make sense yet too.  Laanx\'s sex change halfway through the setting history is another example.

Ah, a rare exception... well okay then :-)

Yes, I was also wondering why Laanx changed from female to male halfway through the story. I thought I was seeing things but \"she\" definately turned to \"he\".

Yup.  Not only that, but a hatchet is more deadly than a shortsword! :-D

A god having a sex change, I can accept.  But a hatchet being the best basic weapon in the game?

The Ynnwn is a separate cross-race, because the merge of the two created something completely different, instead of having two traits. Sometimes they resemble Diaboli, but the sensitive skin, tall size, etc. is unique. Normally, a cross race would just have, say...a Klyros\' arm and a Kran\'s leg (example) but an Ynnwn has a Diaboli\'s tail, and sensitive skin from the merging traits, not the separate traits. I hope this is right.

No, I don\'t believe so.  I think the literature says that a crossbreed (between a Nolthir and a Human for instance) will be one or the other (that is, a Nolthir OR a Human).  But in the case of the Ynnwn, something else happened.

A genetic mutation maybe?
