So my friend showed me this test earlier... And, truth be told, I would -love- to see some people\'s scores...
What you do is, take one of your characters (in this case, of course, a PlaneShift character) and answer the questions concerning them. For example, I tested Jjairr (of course!) and on the first question it would be (i) - a really unusual sounding name that I made up myself.
Oh, here\'s a quick definition as to what a Mary Sue is ... (And for guys it\'s a Gary Stu, evidently)...
***
Who Is Mary Sue and Why Does She Have to Die?
I honestly wish I\'d kept a copy of the first essay I read about Mary Sueism. It was well-done, and I don\'t think I can do the subject half the justice the original did. However, I\'ll give it my best shot.
You already know Mary Sue. Mary Sue is the perky, bright, helpful sixteen-year-old ensign who beams about the ship. Everyone on the ship likes Mary Sue, because Mary Sue is good at everything. Mary Sue is an engineer, a doctor in training, a good leader, an excellent cook, and is usually a beautiful singer. Mary Sue often has mental powers that may manifest themselves as telepathy, precognition, or magic. Her past is tragic, more so than any other character on the series. (Many Mary Sues have a backstory that reads like a V.C. Andrews novel. This is a clue.) If Mary Sue is very young, she is often the offspring of one or two already established characters. If she\'s a little older, she will probably end up sleeping with the author\'s favorite character. Sometimes, she fills both roles. Her name is often the author\'s name, be it a net.name, a favored nickname, or the author\'s middle name (this is seen in the most famous Mary Sue of all time, Wesley Crusher, who was named after Trek creator Eugene Wesley Roddenbery). By the end of the story, Mary Sue will be in bed with the desired character, will have beamed away amid cheers from all the regulars, or will be dead, usually accompanied by heavy mourning from the cast. The reader, on the other hand, will be celebrating. BTW, Mary Sue\'s twin brother can often be identified by his brooding, solitary behaviour, matched by his maverick disregard for authority (for a great example, see the very beginning of TNG\'s \"Hollow Pursuits\" alias Barclay, Part One).

So basically, it\'s the perfect person who we hate with a passion but would love to be, and because we can\'t be said perfect person, we make an RP character to do it for us. :D

Right then! Take the test - it\'s lengthy, I warn you - and answer it TRUTHFULLY! Then post your score. Unless you\'re to embarassed. XD There\'s a box with your score in it and a scale at the bottom of the page.
Jjairr\'s a 39, by the way.
-
29 o.O
-
16-30
A fanfic character can go either way at this point, so authors should maintain a healthy amount of caution here. For an RPG character, however, you should still be within a safe level.
got 26.
-
33. Hope you dont hate me for it
-
lets just say it was a number between 1 and 85 and leave it at that.
-
31 for me.
-
11 \\o/
-
Woot for Taser on being non-uber! \\o/
-
I don\'t get it. I got a 66, but when I roleplay my character I neither elaborate nor do I steal the spotlight. There isn\'t anything largely unusual about my character or anything ulber. Something isn\'t adding up. ?(
-
Looking at the test, it seems that anything that could be called \"unique\" is looked down upon, rather then corresponding with the description given of being \"perfect\". I can\'t truthfully take the test, but that is just what I gather from reading it.
-
24 for me :)
-
steuben as i\'ve writen him, seems to score a 50. but i could be mistaken.
-
Im a 23.
-
15 \\o/
ok so its not quite as low as Tasers but i think its pretty good XD
-
Niavard is a 21.
The test mainly punishes uber or copied cliche characters, Niavard happens to be both fairly useless and a selfish bastard who is only loyal to himself, there are few such characters.
I\'m curious as to see how far into negative UTM\'s Arnigus goes.
-
For Aerium I got 13, quite good.
Edit: Woha I went up a rank.
-
Arnigus Faymore: 31 :/
One of my characters from CoS: 138 ;( (but I knew that already)
-
Lordbug Dosaki is a 83
Hume Silveraxe is a 31
:P
-
Erm,..is 53 good or bad?.... :)
Wouldn\'t have thought Sat\'s score would be that high really.
-
the mary sue essay (http://missy.reimer.com/library/guide.html)

-
26 for me :D
-

Hi
Cherppow Greywood: 12
Right between Taser and Aerium. :)
-
if it was old, l337+1 of uberness Taser, it would probably be over 200. But now I am more normal :P
-
Bah. I still have you beat. :)
The challenge is to make a Mary Sue character believable and not clich
-
Hehe, I can\'t stop smiling at this:
53. Does your character fly?
a. Without wings?

heck that\'s the challenge with any character.

63...
I guess this just proves I\'m more honest than most of you! :P
I got 8 points for saying he was from another universe. Did I misunderstand the question :D
-

oh, oopsie, I thought they were like side kicks or something. hmm, that makes my test results a bit off.
Edit: 67 down to 23. Yay, I\'m a conformist.
-
My awesomest, the armoured character: 61 ;)
Also did a little test there:
- Flies without wings
- Has telepathic/empathic connection or ability to communicate with any kind of animal
- Posesses power that can take out cities/legions of soldiers/general all-around-evil
- Is from another time, world or reality
(Sounds pretty uber to me)
Score: 15 \"Your character should be fine at this level.\"
And inspired by that...

\"Gimmie that lollipop, or I\'ll make everything explode!\"
-
Cherppow I am not sure which scares me more, the fact that he/she is headless or the fact that they are standing in a star.
-
12
I\'m stretching on some of the answers too because the test was set up for people who are fighters, not a chareter like mine who almost never fights. The test does not apply well to Hyung :|.
The biggest ding I got were the other languages Hyung would know as a scholar :p.
-
Yeah it seems things that are unique give you a negative score. Things like being spunky or if you have that whole \"I\'m a woman in a man\'s world\" cliche, you\'re a mary sue as well.
I\'m really confused at how some of this makes bad roleplaying. In fact, if the roleplaying world consisted of the boring characters they seem to be promoting I doubt it would be half as fun as it is.
But that\'s just my two cents.
