Title: Census
Post by: HarenaAbdolor on February 20, 2006, 02:16:14 am
I searched for this one so don\'t kill me... :P

Anyways I think that having a registry in-game would be neat to have.  I think that it would open up the door for having other things like houses and property.  By registering the person would decide where they want to spawn from instead of always spawning from the same place after they die too.

-Just a (searched) thought.

Harena

*edit* I also feel that it would help if people can own their own shops and such in the future.  Also if schooling is offered to help divide which schools you would be allowed to go to depending upon where you live.

Registry for what though? Registering for a different spawn isn\'t IC - where the DR God decides to put you after you make it through the portal is already predetermined. Besides, houses and property is really really really really far away :)

What I mean by registry... kind of like if you decide to move somewhere else you would have to re-establish everything elsewhere.

I realize it may be far away, but I wanted to get it out there because I will probably have forgotten it by the time it would be a possibility.

I belive, in a distant future, where at least 5 or more cities existed, and more features had been aded to the game (such as crafting, smithing, and other jobs), this would really enrich the immersion. Imagine your character was originally from Hydlaa, and you get married with someone from Ojaveda (using as an example the only two ingame cities atm, but could be others), now you\'re gonna have to decide if you move over to Ojaveda, or your spouse moves to Hydlaa (deppending on what jobs you both have, and how easy it would be for either one to leave to another place). This would mean that  you can\'t just get married and have things go as they did before, you\'d have to think about things that, in reality, your character would have to think about. Also, if other features such as crime were to be implemented, if you are caught stealing or murdering people in a Hydlaa, but you\'re from Ojaveda, the authorities in Hydlaa could send you to your city to be punished, or, by adding \"relationship with ____ city\" to the registry, you could be wanted by the city guards as a felon, or something like that. Well, I think I\'m rambling now, just got too caught into what the registry feature could add to the game.
Now, in regard to the  DR God, ok, I\'ll accept that he can decide  where he\'ll put me affter I go through the portal ONLY if that means I will respawn in a random position, instead of only respawning in Hydlaa (or only respawning where you appeared in the first place, I don\'t know if enkis are sent to Akkaio or Hydlaa plaza). Of course, even if I don\'t accept it it\'ll be that way because he\'s a god, but Im just saying it would make more sense if you respawned near the  area you belong.

Now, what I think would be the most positive thing about this regitry is that it enables you to define your character more deeply. Of course, you can do that with your imagination, but it would be great if you could have it be part of the game.
The only thing is that I don\'t think you should be able to set exactly where you\'ll respawn,  but if you ARE from a ceirtain city, then you should respawn somewhere near there.

Indeed, once there is more for us to play around with, this will go far in helping to establish that \"real citizen of Yliakum\" feeling :)

*edit* Enkidukai respawn in Akkaio right now, and once more towns are introduced, the other races will respawn in their more proper places as well :]

And that\'s exactly how I think this would be enriching to the game, you\'d not be restrained to spawning in a ceirtain city due to your race, but you could decide which city you belong to.
This is a double edged sword though (don\'t know if the expression is used in english, but in spanish, \"espada de dos filos\" means something that could be good, or could be bad). If the only multicultural city in the game is going to be Hydlaa, or if there are going to be cities where one race is going to be predominant, having everyone chose the city they live in would kill that concept, because you could have an overpopulation of Ylians in a meant-to-be Stonebreaker town.

edit: unnecesary quoting >_>

[ Perfect expression, by the way :D ] I don\'t know about the last bit - overpopulation of one race in a town designed by members of another. Most are usually drawn to their own, and while living in another will happen and will be really great, I just can\'t see a sort of \"takeover\" like that happening, personally :) Mostly because 1) Stonebreakers for example will always spawn in a Stonebreaker city unless they move out, and 2) Ylians won\'t be the only ones, for example, who may find a Stonebreaker city enchanting enough to live in.

That is true, as long as people stick to true RP:ing that should be safe, and people migrating to other cities for real reasons would mean the predominance would prevail, good point.

How about this, everyone is given a house when they start their character?

Oh wait....
