Title: Can't run psclient.
Post by: Thetargos on February 23, 2006, 06:01:59 am
I downloaded the newest Planeshift, applied the updates stated in the pertinent thread, ran the updater (detected a great deal of updates) and then tried launching the game, this is what I get on the console:

Code: [Select]

X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  135 (XFree86-VidModeExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request:  10 (XF86VidModeSwitchToMode)
  Value in failed request:  0x3200003
Serial number of failed request:  415
Current serial number in output stream:  419

Sys specs:

Fedora Core 4 AMD64 (Xorg 6.8.2)
NVIDIA proprietary driver 8178

Ahlon64 2800
1 Gig RAM
GeForce FX 5900

Ran pssetup to configure the program first (all perms are OK, as far as I can tell) . It would look like some functions are failing on X, could this be due to Xorg instead o XFree?

I\'ll try building the binaries and see if that helps, though, but what I find odd is that all other programs (updater, pssetup) run just fine.

Try to start psclient in windowed mode. If it works in window, You probably have something in your Xorg configuration which prevents the game from running full screen. Try to disable (or enable) some extensions/modules in section \"Module\". I have the following in mine:

Section \"Module\"
    Load \"dbe\" # Double-Buffering Extension
Load \"v4l\" # Video for Linux
    Load \"extmod\"
    Load \"type1\"
    Load \"freetype\"
    Load \"glx\" # 3D layer
EndSection

Also, don\'t set bigger width/height for PS than current xrandr setting (run xrandr command to check this).

Well, something must be wrong with my Xorg config file, as running in Windowed mode worked. Now, if only I could login... hehehe, will look around the boards to see if other people have the same issue as I with logging in.

All your effort has been for not...

There is a new client today.  That\'s why you can\'t log in...

I guess I have to update accordingly, then. I suppose is as easy as just getting the new client?

Hi,

I had the same error with 0.3.014b. trying to run it fullscreen although it worked in windowed mode.

What has worked for me, for fullscreen, is by running the pssetup and making sure the resolution matches what your current desktop resolution is..
