The new build 0.3.013 does not start on my PC anymore; to be more exact: The OpenGL GUI window opens, it is still black - before the \"Intro\" background screen is drawn, the client crashes. And \"illeal instruction\" sounds to me like SSE code not supported by my AMD Duron-800 \"Spitfire\".

Bug #1488 (http://planeshift3d.com/bugtracker/bug.php?op=show&bugid=1488)

I also have the same error when trying to run the client, or the updator.
AMD Thunderbird on this machine

Yes, this build was compiled with SSE support. I think we\'ll have to disable SSE if it\'s causing problems with a lot of people.
Try using this tool to unlock SSE on your processor. Some do support it but have it locked for some reason.

Thanks Xordon,
Looks as if that would work fine on an Athlon XP. I hope I am not out of luck having a T-Bird CPU...

Hi,
if you are experiencing problems like the ones noted above, please try this package. Substitute the exe files with the ones you have in the PS dir. Remember that updater will try to put the former ones back.
PS0.3.013_noSSE2.zip (http://www.planeshift.it/download/PS0.3.013_noSSE2.zip)

I tried that package, Talad and now:
EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION at 004EB579

Same here - another exception followed. Are the CS libs SSE-builds as well?
-
No they aren\'t afaik.
-
My machine specs.
AMD Athlon 1 GHz
512 MB Ram
GEForce 2
Yeah, old I know but it matches the posted minimum specs for the game.
I\'m seeing the same crash described above when running either psclient.exe or the updater. I tried the noSSE binaries linked above but I see no change.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
if you are experiencing problems like the ones noted above, please try this package (new one done today). Substitute the exe files with the ones you have in the PS dir. Remember that updater will try to put the former ones back.

(http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/froehlich/a030.gif) Yes! That one works!
-
I\'ve been struggling all day with this, but it works now thanks!!
-
This one seems to work for me too. Thanks.
-
Is this just an AMD problem ? I have been playing for the last 12 hours fine (on and off), but I am now getting ....
Something unexpected happened in Planeshift: Crystal Blue
Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0041AC3B
The game gets as far as the login screen and goes through :
Loading Game
Requesting World
Loading World
and then i get the message above. I have tried the .zip files but to no avail.
I am runninmg on :
Pentium M
2.00 Ghz with 1 GB ram.
Nvidea GEforce 6800
Thankyou for any help.
EDIT 1 : I just re-installed, exactly the same ?(
/me cries
EDIT 2 : Just logged in on my sons email and character, same pc (hope this helps). I have asked a GM if they will move Ekusile, maybe its his location which is messing things up.
-
I am having the exact same problem. Running a P4, 2.8 MB machine with a n NVidia card as well.
-
Annon - if you let me have your character name, I can maybe ask the GM to move you aswell (when one gets assigned to me).
-
i have no clue what to do with the zip file you gave me...i did open the zip and it made those files...i ran them...but it didn\'t work...
it says:
This application has failed to start because libz-cs.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem
what do i do??
-
You\'d have that file on your planeshift main directory.
If you haven\'t it, try getting it here:
http://www.psmirror.org/psupdater/win32/libz-cs.dll
-
still does the same thing...
-
I replaced the files Talad gave us, and am now having different errors: 0041A926 and 04CBD2ES.
-
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION\'s are completely unrelated problems, aka different bugs. :)
And you need to copy the contents of that zip to your planeshift directory, selecting yes to overwriting existing files.
Should be: C:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\\
-
This could quite possible be unrelated, but now that the most recent EXE files have allowed me to load the game... I have no textures at all.
Edit: Perhaps \"no textures at all\" isn\'t the right wording..but I suppose the screenshot speaks to the problem pretty well.
As a side note, this is apparent before the world loads, even at the character selection screen. Looks as if it\'s more of a super-downsampled texture, as opposed to no textures.
I\'ll investigate my settings further (ie. texture downsampling) and my graphics drivers, but I couldn\'t reproduce the issue on another PC with pssetup.

I reinstalled already, loaded multiple times...
Any ideas?
BTW - thanks Talad/Xordon for the SSE Fix.
Edit: If this is completely unrelated and the post can be moved somewhere more appropriate, please do.

Might be not relevant, but I got similar screens on my Windows PC after installing the latest .13 version. 2D graphics were ok, but all the 3D graphics were like on your screenshot.
In my case the reason was that I had older CrystalSpace development libraries installed and environment variables CEL and CRYSTAL set to these old libraries. After deleting CEL and CRYSTAL environment variables everything started working ok.

PS0.3.013_noSSE2.zip
Sweet...That worked...so now I can play the game. Only one problem, it still gives me the error when I exit the game...I\'m not too worried, because I can still play...but thought it might be something to let you guys know. ^_^
Happy gaming!!!
-
iv been having the some graphics problems as Stronith (the textures arent really displaying), ingame my graphics look identical to the ones in his screenshot.
how exactly do i go about deleating the enviroment variables CEL and CRYSTAL, i dont have much experiance with the planeshift code
-
If you didn\'t ever add those environmental variables, you won\'t have them to remove. They\'re used when you build it yourself.
-
Strange, how then am i having the same graphics problems as stronith then. the issus must be related. any ideas?
-
i have the problem starting the game since i have installed the new version:
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0000005E
after installing the patch above i got
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0000007E
at every start
I have an
Windows 2000 sp4
AMD ATHLON 2500+
and an ATI Radeon 9600
edit: oh, wrong thread, sorry
-
