Does BitTorrent work on a Mac? I don\'t have the time to test something for 12 hours to find I wasted my time completely when it can be avoided.
-
From the BitTorrent FAQ:
Can I use BitTorrent on Mac OS X?
You can use BitTorrent on Mac OS X 10.3 and newer. BitTorrent currently does not work under OS X 10.2.
Can I use BitTorrent on Mac OS 9?
After installing MacPython, you should be able to use bittorrent-console.py from the source.
There are other clients you could use as well, such as BitComet (http://www.bitcomet.com/) and Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/), among many other.
-
Yes it does, download the Bittorrent client for mac here:
http://www.bittorrent.com/dl/BitTorrent-Stable.dmg

Doh, should\'ve refreshed. :P
Karyuu has devine speed :))
-
Sorry I was unspecific. I\'ll say what I should\'ve said:
I am able to do the whole BitTorrent thing, but I was wondering if I am better off waiting for the mirrors to be fixed. My apologies for saying it wrongly the first time.
-
I would use bittorrent.
The mirrors will take a while to be updated, and with bittorrent you will probably get better speeds, because the mirrors will get mobbed once they\'re up.
-
Keep in mind that until the Mac release is up, you can\'t get it via bittorrent OR the mirrors.
-
That\'s EXACTLY what I wanted to know! Thank you! I feel safe now :)

bitcomet site says it is only for windows
but I can\'t seem to find the infor for Azureus: it says it is a java ap. Does anyone know if it runs on 10.2.8? (bittorrent does not)
-
Not sure about Azureus, but I think out of all the clients it\'s most likely to support 10.2.x - let us know if it does!
I\'m not sure how long I can remain as a seeder, so everyone who IS downloading it, please leave your clients open for a while so that it stays as fast as possible!
Thanks,
Daniel

I went ahead, downloded azureus oldest version, as it would be most likely to work with my os (probably didn\'t need to take that precaution)
It seems to be working fine, but I wish I knew how to tell. I don\'t know how to use the azureus program--very, very, verry simple to start.
How do you increase upload capability once I am downloaded?
I\'m already uploading, and jumping 80 to 99% complete (in just minutes) but my upload is less than one tenth my download speed. [I am searching guides and such.]
Also, should we start a new thread for azureus--so those older os macs can learn it? (wait and see?)
edited/continued: take that back on the completion (I don\'t know what that percentage is now)
I found more info as follows: 72% done, 3(16)seeds, 5(17)peers, downspeed jumps around between 20 & 140, Up speed jumps from12 to 30, max speed unlimited
Are thes ok--I still have a green smiley, but I don\'t want to suddenly get cut off for being a leech.
-
As long as you\'re not harshly limiting upload speed, that\'s cool.
-
made the upload speed as high as could. aftera few secs, all stopped, and a \"scrape\" no more loads.
at ratio .5
will shut down for night, I just keep getting console code from fragnetics \"somehing has changed\" \"scraped\" try to make sense tomorrow.
can\'t get anymore connections at all--strange, but maybe normal.
