I am having some problems with this game. I am probably just missing one of the required things, but i dont know which one... The background keeps flashing bright to dark every now and then, the controls lag, and my character is pure green. I have windows. If that is enough to tell which requirement i am missing, please tell me what it is!

Update your graphics card drivers. Also, read the system requirements (http://planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=21500&boardid=17) and make sure you meet them.
-
ok thanks
also, do you think the graphics card is the only thing i need?
-
Based on the info you provided, it seems like a graphics card driver issue. If updating this doesn\'t work, it could be something else.
-
What is the graphics card driver???
-
A program that controls a device. Every device, whether it be a printer, disk drive, or keyboard, must have a driver program. Your graphics card is one of these. What card do you have? You can find this by right-clicking on your desktop, hitting Properties, then going to the Settings tab and looking under Display.
-
I did that, and in settings under Display it says:
Plug and Play Monitor on S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (Microsoft Corporation)
What does that mean?
-
It means you probably don\'t have a computer that can play this game. Based on the information I can dig up on this card, it seems to be a generic onboard thing that isn\'t likely to be able to play any decent 3D games.
-
So your saying its hardware in my computer thats the problem??? I have played many 3d games before and they worked just fine.
I have Windows XP by the way. What would i change on my computer to make this game work?
Operating System: Windows XP
Processor: Nanosys something - it isnt pentium
Graphics Card: Plug and Play Monitor on S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (Microsoft Corporation)... i think...
System Memory: ?
Video Memory: ?
I know have enough memory tho
I just downloaded the torrent file, I download bit-torrent and then i installed the game. I ran the updater. The game started up and i made a character. I tried starting up the game, and it came up with a box that said \"Something unexpected happened: EXCEPTION_ ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0041AC3B.\" I tried this like 10 times, and finally I got thru to the game. It was lagging like heck. I walked incredibly slowly thru the game and the objects around kept lighting up and then going dark. My character was pure green. Please help me. Thanks.

DaveG already stated the problem - you have a certain lack of a decent graphics card. What intensive 3D games have you played on this machine before? There is nothing we can do for you, as your \"card\" falls below the minimum requirements.
-
I think the only one i have played is runescape (the graphics sucked, so i dont think that would require much graphics card.) Do you think the graphics card would also be the reason for the error:
\"Something unexpected happened: EXCEPTION_ ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0041AC3B.\"???
Also, do i have to go out and buy another graphics card or what?
Sorry that i dont know anything about computers. At all.

To play any real intensive 3D games such as PlaneShift, you\'re going to have to get a decent card.. :) The access violation is probably another issue, but the lag and strange graphics are due to your onboard graphics controller. The good news is that a decent card can be found for under $100 fairly easily (at least online - and with newegg.com), so I would recommend saving up for one. Knowing how much RAM you have may also be a good idea - it\'s a crucial element. Right-clicking on My Computer and hitting Properties will bring up a window with some basic info - such as RAM and processor, operating system, etc.

Look. You can\'t compare the Jagex MMO to PlaneShift. RuneScape has a certain lack of noncrappyness that makes it incomperable to any decent modern game.
If your graphics card can play RuneScape, it may not be able to play some 2d games. I kid you not.
