I have been advising again and it took me a day to figure out that Minuis, who was mysteriously getting a AP every time i did.
I had forgotten i had a alto let alone its name.
To confirm this i created Rupert and Gertrude, who now get one every time i do.
So if i Janner is needed, look for one of the above names, if you dont see Janner.
Word of warning. if you wont to keep your alto secret don\'t get on the Adviser list. smiles.
-
Thanks Janner for the warning :)
Please create one more alt for yourself, so the list will be filled with your alts and we don\'t have to worry about our alts showing up on that list ;)
/me will be very careful now to make sure that none of his alts end up on that list.

As is said on the mainsite:
Advisor points are now on account, not on char.
That seems then to have that side effect, that all the chars belonging to one account appear on the list.
I don\'t think that was the intention when making that change.
The mainsite said also something about temporarily disabling advisor points, but it seems that, reading this post, that removal didn\'t take place (or the temporary period already expired :P)

Please, if something doesn\'t work properly or it works but differently from what it was announced during the release, prepare some cute bug reports in the bugtracker and I will be glad to splat them ;)
I think the system was not fully tested - it happens, it is not easy to test every single thing - and if it is really annoying to get advisor points on all chars we can design the system in a better way.
The advisor system, imho, needs some good refreshment....
-
The only change to AP was to wipe them clean and start at zero.
That is all i noticed right from start thy were coming up on list but not in Stats box, removed from there.

Well... that is obviously not the case if what you claim is happening to true.
-
Sad day deleted all my altos.
As there is no point in having a alto, till this side effect is fixed.
-
Sure there is...
-
The list of advisor points will be entirely removed anyway.
-
hmm well with this bug the list is as good as removed anyhow ;) Ofcourse you know who the best is but you don\'t have a top five anymore ;)
Think I can say best seeing who is on top atm ;)
-
The advisor system was removed from public view... at least in the main code. I also moved the count to the accounts table, instead of characters, so people with multiple characters are counted correctly. The AP list on the Laanx page is simply too smart for it\'s own good. :D It somehow magically found out that the count is now in the accounts table, and is still listing it! We just need to remove that part of that page. :P

Ehm, sorry, but this is not 200% sure. After all, the advisor system might be redesigned a little and then the list could be useful still - modified maybe depending if we keep the things how they are now or not.
Anyway, it is all for the future. Temporarily it is like this.
-
Thanks for the correction, Ary :) I think I was talking about it with a short-term view - at least this is what has been decided for now.
-
It might also be that my information have been changed in the while....You never know :-)
Anyway, like everything in PS (basically) everything can change! :D

Really glad to hear that it might still stay, I for one think it is very helpful.

How so?

Adviser Points forget them not important, shore its nice to see my name on some list but not important.
Helping others IS. after all that is what i do HELP were i can and were better than in a channel all of its own.
If you are saying scrap the channel i for one will direct all my help request to you as that is what you seam to wont, it will free me up to Role Play and enjoy a talk with my friends without constant interruptions. ( by the way i don\'t mind the interruptions as like i said i help were i can, and my friends understand this and if i don\'t talk they know it is not because i am ignoring them, it is because i am helping someone.)
So to sum up: help channel is needed to free up normal game play. (chat and tells) without it you will find it very hard to Role Play because A. in middle of chat you get the I AM NEW WHOT DO I DO (or similar) do you a ignore it and hope it goes away, or do you hope a bystander answers the question, or do YOU answer the question. In the meantime the Roll Play mood has been lost. Thats chat dealt with.
Now for Tells. you are doing your thing in game, out of blue [TELL] were do i train this and that] [what do i say to NPC to get a quest.] [ I have tried everything to get NPC to respond he do-sent understand me what do i say?]
I think the examples above sums up my reasons for the continued need for a help channel.

Woah there, I thought we were talking about the advisor points list, not the entire advisor system :) The help channel won\'t go anywhere - it\'s an important and necessary part of PlaneShift.
It\'s the advisor points list that really has no place in the scheme of things, in my opinion.

Sorry misread your post. smiles.
I dont really see any harm in it, yes i agree it is not important. And we cane live without it.
-
Yeah, that was the whole point. We were getting too many idiots competing over AP. I was even getting reports of people tricking players into responding and replying with gibberish just to get points. The score needed to go. It\'s still there (as evident by the entirely too smart page on Laanx) by we\'re just going to use it internally, as a rough tally of who the advisors are. The help system isn\'t going anywhere, we just want to get the advisors back to a more respectable state.

Good to hear well done keep up the good work.

I would re-underline that the points will not be used just internally after the system will be redesigned.
With the solution as it is right now they don\'t need to be visible, but the solution is temporary and with the new solution instead things will most probably change again.
