Hi,
This is what our guild Ruby Reign is all about.
Goal: The Ruby Reign guild unites all people that are in search of something of Yliakum.
You can search for:
Merchants, goods, jobs, friends, problems to solve, knowledge, a place to live - or briefly: Your meaning of life in Yliakum.
We help anyone that needs it:
That includes giving weapons to newbies (if and only if you can afford it)
Showing newbies around the game
Helping anyone that needs it to the best of your ability
Alignment: Lawful good, but the guild protects the goals of the guild. This may include actions that are forbidden by the current laws.
History: The guild was created during the ruby rain and is therefore called Ruby Reign.
Members: The guild welcomes anybody who is interested in searching for things and helping anyone that is in need of help in anyone you can. We do not require anyone to be a massive role-player. It is nice to see members of the guild role-playing but it not a requirement to be here and you will not be kicked out of the guild if you do not role-play at all. One rule everyone needs to follow is that you will share an NPC with anyone that comes up and asked it is just polite to do so.
Allies: We do not accept alliances because of complications that might come from it. We might have alliances out side of what is listed in the alliance section of the guild window. As of now we are an ?Alliance? with the protectors.
Enemies: The guild tries to avoid conflicts with other persons or guilds, but if the guild or its interests are threatened, we stand united and protect our self.

So basically you exist to help any character do good things or get further ahead in the game... sounds boring and generic to me, no offense.
And what\'s with this: \" That includes giving weapons to newbies (if and only if you can afford it)\". Afford it? I thought you were giving them. People will read that and be confused.

I mean the guild member having the money to give them away new members might not have the money for it. Leave us alone if you do not like what we are about.

No reason to ask people to avoid posting anything but praise or positive comments ;) In a public forum, all have the right to post their opinions. The concept behind your guild isn\'t exactly innovative, but whatever flows. I would love to see more roleplay and more need for roleplay, also. It\'s good to help newbies, but it\'s even better to help newbies and show them what PlaneShift is for - roleplay.
It\'s your guild so certainly do whatever you want, and new players will love you for the help you can offer, but I think you can do better.
-
The technical reason was to collect the former members of Janners Way, after Janner left PlaneShift because he was treatened by some members... But this would not be a nice reason for the guild to continue without its previous leader. Therefore we looked for a credible explanation - in respect of roleplaying, Karyuu.
Would you prefer \"We are just the former followers of Janner\" instead? -- No, we grew up to an own guild. And we thank our \"parents\" for raising their first generation of children, but we decided that this explanation would be even less accepted than the one we created here...
-
No no, I think the roleplay history or explanation behind your guild is fine. I was commenting on Illori\'s statement that roleplaying isn\'t a necessecity within the guild, and this led me to believe that this is not something you will be concentrating on when it comes to helping new players.
-
Indeed, we prefer people who behave nicely and show potential in roleplaying, to be helped. We suggest and support, but we don\'t enforce roleplaying to our members, or to the users we help.
Like in Janners Way, our guild in general is open to all kinds of players in general. But the members are different, so some of us prefer roleplaying much more over leveling. And we do not support mindless challenging between players out of boredom...

Alright, since you asked:
No backstory.
No comments on ranking system.
No details on who\'s in charge.
You\'re just a generic \"good\" guild that has cash to share with new players. It\'s boring.
You talk about protecting \"your interests\", but you don\'t have any \"interests\" to protect. At least, no interesting ones.
I also don\'t have much faith in a guild.... rather the remains of a guild.... that has so many drama queens. Though I don\'t like him, Janner at least had his own kind of charisma which helped him lead the guild.
Also, last I heard Janner was back, and he only ever left because of drama -- both inflated and imagined. I\'ve never heard of this \"threat\" thing, and I wonder if you\'re just making it up since Janner hasn\'t said anything about it publically.
Since Janner hasn\'t said anything about it publically (that I\'m aware of), then it either isn\'t true, or he doesn\'t want others to be aware of it.
Also, the description of your guild is just plain unattractive. Put some effort in making proper headings. Some font formatting might be nice as well.
You\'ve also contradicted yourself in the \"Allies\" section, and I\'m not sure if you\'ve made a wise decision with it. You\'re willing to fight people to protect your \"interests\", but you won\'t form alliances with people PERIOD? Except for the Protectors, that is. And whoever else you\'re already in an alliance with? It seems like you haven\'t really though it out.

I have a question about the roleplaying part. Since your members don\'t have to RP, is the whole organisation OOC or do you RP your roles as teachers/helpers despite the fact that there is nobody to give you response?
And if it is an RP:ed organisation, what kind of people are your characters helping? Newbies is an OOC term, so (in your eyes) what is their IC counterpart?
Also, why just hand them weapons? I dunno, tell them they are now in the clothing business and are handed weapons on one condition: that they bring you a certain amount of hides and leather every week. To hell with the good samaritan! :P
I think it is a great intiative to help newbies, though I\'m completely with Karyuu when she says:
It\'s good to help newbies, but it\'s even better to help newbies and show them what PlaneShift is for - roleplay.
...sorry for all the abbreviations... :)
p.s. Zanzibar is harsh, but completely right...on many points
-
No no, you had it right the first time. :-D There was no need to soften the blow.
-
Hello and welcome. Hope you have good fortunes and good luck.
note to all my problems have been sorted and no i don\'t wont to tell, my problems are my own and will remain so.
Good luck.

The guild announcement you see in this thread is a censored and politically correct version of what we have discussed in the guild over last two months. There are many different ideas and it is difficult to come out with something that everybody would agree. You can say that the organization is currently OOC, because the RP reasons for the guild aren\'t finished yet.
Newbies are an OOC term and their IC counterpart depends on the current situation. Every case is taken individually. Just look into the Wish list section of these forums. How many times people have asked for Tutorial for Newbies, Entry level game training etc. Look at the replies in these threads: it will be soon(tm), yes there will be NPCs training newbies etc. So that\'s the hole in the game that we are trying to fill.
We show to newbies what this game is about and it includes role-playing. We guide them through the game and they will a) leave the game or guild because it is boring; b) join the guild because they like our lightweight role-playing and helping newbies; or c) become good role-players and find their home somewhere else.
If somebody wants to discuss what this guild is about, join the #planeshift-rubyreign IRC channel, let us know your thoughts and listen to ours.

Welcome to the Ruby Reign and good luck.
I don\'t know why some says that the guild isn\'t roleplaying, I saw most of the ancient members doing it well.
Newcomers doesn\'t roleplaying but we can\'t blaim it, A newbie can\'t roleplay if he doesn\'t know anything about the rules, the game or the current plots. They have to learn by experienced players and meet the good roleplayers. The Ruby Reign is the first step for a newbie in this world, giving enough knowledge for a good start to roleplay.
Remember yourself, did you roleplay when arrived in Planeshift? check your first chat log you will see...
( I say it because i just checked my first chat log, OMG i was completely ooc...)
-
It\'s kind of ewy to use #planeshift-xxxxxx to do your thing on IRC.... it\'s like you\'re trying to present yourself as having something of an official nature.
-
Great explanation Bereror. :) Just make sure evryone in the guild are aware of your guilds goals and, more importantly, share the same guild goals. In your description of the guild, you seem to put more interest in RP than the others, so work hard to make that idea pass :P
As for the IC newbies question, I asked this because I too have planned to make a teaching organisation and found that to be the most difficult question to answer. :)
Good luck with everything guys...
p.s. No no, you had it right the first time. :-D There was no need to soften the blow.
Can\'t believe you saw that :P I can\'t be as evil as you hehe

If you think our members are not roleplaying,
- read Gag\'s Diary,
- buy weapons in Illori\'s shop,
- ask people about her wedding with Acissej,
- meet Tharos in the Death Realm (o.k., not a member as Tharos, but as another character),
- watch Micarrie cuddle with Khay, or Lilie with Skreit (if he\'s not the \"Lonely Warrior\" then),
...
Other members (like Bereror) are mainly helping the developers in bugfixing - do you mind that?
And even other members are just learning to participate, or are less active so you may not have seen them often.
Furthermore, one of the main \"advantages\" of Janners Way for me was the freedom he gave his members. Not all roleplayers enjoy being limited by tight rules of a hierarchical guild. Some (like us) prefer the mix of individual freedom and a tolerant small community. Therefore we continued this concept in Ruby Reign. If you don\'t share this opinion, please at least let us enjoy it.

What I don\'t understand, are people who love nitpicking about the IC reason for a helpful guild more than fighting intolerant people who split the community...

Simply because this idea can be done in an IC way, and would be a waste of good RP opportunities if made completely OOC.
Also, you guys need to state in your first post what kind of replies you want to this thread. If asking for IC reasons is bad (especially when they are not presented in the explanatory post) you clearly must have everything worked out already and do not require any feedback. Maybe you should state that in your first post, so the weird people who want to help you don\'t waste their time :)
-
Sengus - I don\'t think that you want to split the community; I know that you love roleplaying too much to offend other members so much that they would either curse you, or quit playing.
Apart from that... Not all players are \"born roleplayers\", and not all love to be pushed head-over-heels into it. Still, they are part of this world. We want to give them a guiding hand, and will show them several ways to live here. It is their decision which they will follow.
I only hope that you \"real roleplayers\" will have enough tolerance with those who are still learning. It took me several months to become what I am today - ask people around who are famous for good roleplaying, I\'m sure most of them would not want to miss me today. Learning to enjoy roleplaying is possible - some need more time than others.
You can believe that we talked a long time about the way we would present us to the public. But the OOC reason is too complicated to publish it as IC reason, and alternative IC reasons are hard to work out to describe the intentions correctly and comprehensive enough. What you can read in the opening, is a result of discussions over two months. Please don\'t mind me doubting that people who don\'t know us, will \"help\" us immediately.
\"Janner\'s Way\" has never been accepted by all members, therefore \"Ruby Reign\" won\'t be either. Some were against the great freedom the members were allowed, called it a lack of structure, or did not accept them being a guild. Some seemed to be simply against \"another of so many newbie-helping guilds\", principally, and never wanted to understand the speciality. And I try to avoid arguing with \"anti everything\" people, because I know that they don\'t listen to arguments. You, Sengus, are certainly not one of those...

Something being hard should never stop anyone :) Otherwise we wouldn\'t have PlaneShift at all.
I still maintain that it would be more beneficial to the PlaneShift community as a whole if we had more roleplay-oriented guilds, but it\'s your choice. It just seems that not everyone will think that it\'s the best choice you could have made.

True, true. All these help the weak guilds are turning the \"weak\" into high-rollers with 15 bodyguards while they kill a rat in the sewers. Come on! Think world domination, killing of annoying evil guys like Sangwa, just plain messin\' with people. Anything will do.

Ruby Reign now has a Guild House where we also welcome visitors. But we ask all the visitors to leave their weapons outside before entering the house.

Hi,
Ruby Reign has renamed a few levels in preparation for a new guild track. Here are the new levels:

2. Novice
3. Apprentice
4. Mentor
5. Officer
6. Manager
7. Vice Counselor

9. Ruby Crystal Mistress
The new guild track is Mentor. All members after they achieve level Clerk (4) will be put in this new track. At the moment we dont have anyone in this level so for now we have allowed Skreit and Semson both Apprentices to take on this important track for the guild. So if you are new to Planeshift and need help or are a new member to our guild please come and ask Skreit, Semson or anyone in the levels of Clerk, Officer, or Manager for help getting to know the world.
