All right ... I couldn\'t resist trying the client once I got it downloaded ...
And here are the first bugs I could notice (at least on my configuration)
- The shortcutbar doesn\'t draw correctly. There are only 4 shortcut buttons and I cannot modify them through the .xml file as I used to.
- The chatwindow is transparent and remains transparent allthough I chat or go over it with the mouse.
Now let\'s help Dfryer by continuing the bug hunt ... please do post bugs only once. 8)

For the chatwindow: have you tried to open the file planeshift.cfg and see the settings of the chatwindow? Usually in that file the transparency settings of each window are defined.
They might have been wrongly defined there to make the window always transparent.

The new version is much better, but my sound does not work. I have enabled it in pssetup.

Earthlink, that is unfortunately a known issue. The sound renderer has been changed with this new release, and the macintosh support is still behind the others (which instead have other cosy problems like big memory leaks :|)

the chat window issue is solved by opening the planeshift.cfg file in textedit and changing in the bold part below the values to 0:
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.Visible = true
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.PosX = 468
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.PosY = 454
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.Width = 330
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.Height = 146
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.MinTransparency = 200
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.MaxTransparency = 200
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.FadeSpeed = 8
PlaneShift.GUI.ChatWindow.Fade = true

Aznakh, you should be able to access those settings in-game by right-clicking the chat window (in the part where the text displays).

The sound is gone. pssetup.app doesn\'t help.

Hermeneus: known problem, check other threads as well.
@Cha0s, sorry I forgot that the \"aux\" menu of the chat window doesn\'t appear any longer if you right click it...

You could just edit the transparancy settings of another window by rightclicking on it and then click \"apply to all\".

That is what Cha0s said, basically ;)
Before there was a special window that was appearing when you were right clicking the chat window - and now there is not any longer for some reason. I just forgot about it, that is why I was suggesting the manual editing.

I have to question the accuracy of the fault for the sound not working on Mac.
dfryer disabled the sound while configuring psclient because he couldn\'t get it to work right on his computer, but what is the real cause the new renderer not working on his system?
From the information I have at this time: sound not working in the first place--on fryers system--could be due to any of the following.
1) The reconfigure on 10.3 caused the client to be directed to a file that is not available from the renderer.
1a) ...to be directed to a file to coordinate the sound card with the renderer--but it is not in the driver [because dfryer\'s last driver update was for 10.2? slim]
2) The renderer was configured on 10.4 so it is asking for a file that is not with 10.3. [Like now with psclient on os10.2]
3) The renderer is not compatible with mac (slim).
4) 10.3 is manifesting one of its sound bugs that were oh so popular with online games when it first came out = miscoordinating required files between what it wants, the card uses, and the game is requesting.
My bets would be on 1 or 4.

I just updated my client and now it wont even start up nothing will start the client, offical updater, or the client setup will not start up the offical updater window will flash for a second then go away without warning. i Run OS X 10.2.8 with a G3 450mhz 448mb ram. i use to ba able to run it before i updated to this new client version

Planeshift crashes when computer is loading the realms. My internet connection dies after that and I have to restart the computer. This started happen today.

The reason sound doesn\'t work is because the Crystalspace Mac sound driver has been broken ever since it was rewritten for the new renderer (by someone without a Mac to test on).
We hope to amend this in the not too distant future.

Well. Was trying to change some keyborad/mouse options (beacuse I\'m poor and with 1 button mouse :P ) and I just simply won\'t get contextual menus... I\'ve figured out to change some things (my shorcuts on the shortcuts window) manually.. but I think I\'ll need \"right-click\" IN the game.
I\'ve tried changing the contextual menus for \"ctrl+click\", \"alt+click\" but ist doesn\'t work. Du I have to buy a Mighty mouse for that?
I don\'t know if it\'s a bug... maybe I\'m stupid.. but I will be thankful if I can get this working.

EDIT:
Well.. I can now use contextuals (with SHIFT+Click). Modifying the mouse.xml of course.. not in the game. It would be nice if the keyboard / mouse changes works when I\'m playing and not manually. It\'s quite problematic to make a shortcut from within the game.

EDIT 2: the contextual menu works in the game just with characters and objects. If I want to make contextual menu on the shortcuts (to make or modify a new one) it won\'t work.

i Have the same problems , and some advisor told me to delete zoneinfo.xml and run the updater...i would but, the updater is still on the old version isn\'t it?

Correct. The zoneinfo.xml fix only fixes the sewers problem (although there might be better config files for window settings in the updater, I\'m not sure)

Still cannot play in sewers.
Still the client crashes one or two times when I want to go into the arena.
Still the client freezes when I came out from the arena to the main foutain.
Hi mac developers,
still the framerate is very low in all parts of arena.
still the framerate is low at the main fountain and on the way to the town exit gate.
still no sound
still the framrate is very low in parts of realm of dead, special at the first steps
and on the ladder :(
still ulbernats at the ruins and tufesangs in floor of arena hit me threw the walls.
still on some parts in the arena I can go threw the wall and than \"You fell off the end of the world and died.\"
still cannot see the flying arrow from \"Summon Missile\" (chrystal way spell)
that is too much!!

PS. version .12 running a lot better. I believe before thinking at big Wipes and new features work on that basics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

amr, you realise that not all those bugs are common to macs :) Your experience with version 12 was probably after most of the initial bugs were fixed - if you\'re not willing to wait through some rough spots you\'re probably not willing to test prerelease software!

I tried modifying the shortcutcommands.xml file in /Planeshift3d/data/gui and /Planeshift3d/data/options and the result was that I didn\'t have any more a shortcutbar at all. ?(
There just some vertical lines over the shortcutbar.

I hope you have a backup of the original .xml--but if not then reconfigure planeshift.cfg file (there is a thread on that).
When modifying .xml DO NOT USE THE RETURN KEY FOR A NEW LINE (this enters a character that is not xml and kicks out an error) [I have been through this]
You can get a couple of extra lines by placing insertion just before the very last line () then return.
A better workaround is to place the insertion point at the very end of the file (in some cases there is an extra blank line, others it is the end of the last visible notation). With insertion point at the end of the file hit return to create the number of lines you need (sometimes can\'t get all you want).
Then move the ending code () down type in your new code and commands--be sure to use the new commands [see thread about new commands] REPEAT: DO NOT USE RETURN KEY WITHIN THE .XML FILE WHERE INSTRUCTIONS ARE--ONLY AFTER ALL THE LINES, and be sure that you are using plain text.
Aslo, rumor has it that bbedit will not cause this problem--but I know that some versions of bbedit will.

i do hope that it wont run slower than the other version. and i do hope that OS X 10.2.8 will still be supported down the road cause i do have a Beige G3 . i use to be able to run it on a G3 266 it was slow but it ran i bought a G3 450mhz cpu OCed at 466 and i wanted to test it out and had to update to the new version and it wouldent start . i am trying tp update again.

If you\'re updating through the updater application, I suggest you read the Mac Client Status sticky. The binaries are not in the repository yet, so that won\'t work. :P

I had also the same problem that cannot enter the sewers.
I asked at IRC about it, and have solved the problem.
Download the linked file directory and put the downloaded file in data folder.
i also on mac and now i can play in the sewers.
but error occurs when i exit from another entrance of sewers.
have fun.

1. Ok, I used that zonefile, but the sewers are in darkness. I don\'t know how to use the relight map in the pssetup. I haven\'t encountered any other
bugs and I can finally see the textures in the Ojaveda road and the Deathrealm.
2. Also how do I use fullbright on the mac? Do I set it in the game via the right click on shortcuts?
3. How do I modify the shortcuts? I only have four. In the PS file under data
and options, there are 2 shortcut xml but one has def on the end which has all the shortcuts from before.
I hope this wasn\'t too long.

To use -fullbright, you need to run from the command line or use my PSClientCMD application (look in the Guide sticky, at the end of the first post).
If you have a two-button mouse, you can just right-click on a shortcut in-game to modify it. If not, you need to edit the file without the \"def\" on the end. :)

I haven\'t tried starting PlaneShift from Terminal with \"-fullbright\" yet.

The psclient from Updater.jar worked? If so, they must have updated the repository... are you sure it\'s working?

Interesting ... if they updated the repositories, dfryer or the other people of the dev team should know about it.
I wonder wether I can replace the .cfg files I modified by the original ones which are in the PS .dmg file to fix the issue of the broken shortcut menu.
I will \"volunteer\" and try to update through the .jar updater and test after a clean install of the client. I shall post reports on wether it works or not.

Allright I did the test ... with the following steps:
- Moved the Planeshift3D folder on my HD to another location
- Mounted the PlaneshiftCB_v13.dmg
- Made a clean install of Planeshift by copying the Planeshift3D folder from the disk image
- Made a clean install from the .jar updater by copying the 2 files into the PS folder
- I then updated with the .jar updater
.... and PS will not launch 8o
SO DON\'T USE THE UPDATER !!!!

I guess this is the right place to bitch. When I try to run the game, I get the message: \"Cannot load zone info. Check your log.\" or some such nonsense, and then it quits to the desktop again. I can\'t download (right-click, ctrl-click/save as, or what have you) whatever that zoneinfo.xml file it is that people keep pointing to gleefully. The splash screen is hella fun, though. :p
EDIT: Heh, weird. Apparently the file ended up on my desktop but never showed any presence in the download cue. Loads up okay now. Sound being off makes it less than fun, though. I\'ll wait.

the way it seems is that OS X 10.2.8 will no longer be supported i hope this is not the case. but i can relate to them if they did drop support for 10.2.8 cause its like OS 9 its old and people dont want to code for either OS any more. and i can relate to people having more inpotant things to do than this game. but please say if 10.2.8 will still be supported. i am groweing very tired of waiting. its like waiting for a port of the elder scrolls morrowind not going to happen. almost watching paint peal its self. this is by far a nice big bug but a known one.
Chaos you need to edit the stikies and show the current working status for OS X cause not all versions of OS X will run planeshift 10.2.8 is a no go , i dont know about the other OS X versions i really want to play the game and see how much speed a gained with this G3 466mhz cpu from the G3 266mhz i use to use playing this game

The failure to function on 10.2 was an unwanted surprise to me, and shouldn\'t be a problem in the future. Crystalspace (and hence Planeshift) continues to work on 10.2.
The long delay is not due to any technical reasons but instead a difficult update/release cycle :/

sweet im glad to still see it will be supported. i can understand it takes a wile to do this for 10.2 cause its like a totaly diffrent OS from 10.3 and 10.4 but are all the same. weird in a way. but keep up the great work and i do hope this game will eventualy play with minimal bug\'s its going to take time i can understand. i did enjoy the game when i was able to play it and really look forward to being able to play it again. good job all

Actually it is Apple\'s fault. 10.3 shipped with gcc 4 and it was doing fine until 10.3.9 when they added a direct file to dual access libraries--supposedly to help uni code programs, but there were no strictly unicode programs or even an operating system for them yet. They did this secretly, without informing Mac developers. Mac developers learned that they had to use gcc 3.3 in order to be compatible with 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and universal. Which is done by resetting to use gcc3.3 instead of gcc4. [Note: this file only helps \"mac universal code\" programs a little bit.]
Now, one of Planeshift mac compiler persons didn\'t know this, and I understand a final check was done of the Mac Client using 10.3.9--without resetting to use gcc3.3--so the final compilation inserted a direct file that caused PS Mac client to not be compatible with 10.2.
**For everyone\'s sake I repeat what I said before: gcc 3.3 compiles for 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and universal; gcc4 with the direct added to 10.3.9 barely optimizes a program for universal; all mac universal systems will come with a program which automatically optimizes \"strict\" universal bit code programs, and makes not Uni code programs usable. True universal bit code OS and hardware systems are only just now beginning to be released, and they are not 100% uni mac code.
Therefore, it is not necesary to compile for universal code until mac no longer supports not uni mac code--and notice that gcc3.3 is uni mac code compliant. [All those who have closed off 10.2, have done so prematurely.]
Moreover, Mac will not be squeezing out their not uni mac code systems or programs for years to come (only 10.2) and uni mac code may not be so universal--just like when they came out with the power macs that were supposed to be cross-platform by using universal code--why it is called Mac universal code.

so do i have to wait till .14 to be released for it to work on 10.2.8 or is .13 going to be done to work on 10.2.8

Hopefully, .13 should be released again to work on OS X. You might try the current distribution from the mirrors (not the torrent), as I think that may be updated. If it doesn\'t work, we\'ll just have to wait for the new binaries to be published.

If the updated binaries aren\'t in the updater, then they\'re not up on the mirrors. I\'m sorry, that\'s just the way things are right now. I\'m really hesitant now to try and force an update for fear of breaking everything for everyone.

no dont rush anything let it take its time. i can wait its not like the end of the world \"or is it\". i was just hoping to test the game out on this new cpu and more ram. cause before i was playing .12 on a G3 266mhz with 224mb ram. now im waiting on .13 to be playable on 10.2.8 so i can test this 466mhz G3 cpu with 448mb ram on this beige. im just real ancy to try it out
