Post by: Elentor on March 06, 2006, 11:21:24 pm
Hello there, this is a high-poly concept art/teaser for a low-poly sword I\'m gonna make. Made entirely in Cinema 4D, hope you enjoy.

I do believe I am in love o_O That is absolutely stunning. The blade itself looks a little flat, but the hilt and grip and pommel are just gorgeous. A teaser indeed! Feed us more :D

Hello there guys, thanks for the comments.

It isn\'t flat, but I phong-shaded it and since the angles weren\'t very rectangular the whole shape looks like a flat surface. Shame on me.

Currently I\'m already working so I have no time for side-projects, but I worked on Planeshift 4 years ago (on 2002).

Your textures are fantastic.  I have to ask, do you use commerical textures or make your own? Because I love their realism.

What modeling program do you use. My guess is milkshape or blender. I really like the detail you put into it. Very good UV\'s too!

Thanks.  All my textures are made from zero either brushing or taking pictures.

I use Cinema 4D 9.5 for modelling, texturing and everything. In some architectural models I use Rhinoceros 3.0, though.

You are belonging to the growing number of people in this community that inspire me to get better at modelling. Honestly, I see stuff like that sword and think \"whoa... wish I could do that.\"  Also I would like to say that that is some really stunning textureing.

Yeah, seriously :) It\'s great to find further motivation and inspiration to improve your own skills - and Elentor\'s textures are a definite motivational muse for me ;)

I actually wondered about that after noticing how long youve been registered with the forums. What have you done thats in Planeshift? Again those models are gorgeous, so I\'m glad PS has some of you in it.

How do you get your textures to look so good. Like the designs and stuff. I must know!

Man, honestly, I don\'t even know/remember. That was so long ago and, to be quite honest, you\'d be surprised to see the amount of crap I did by the time... My work on Planeshift is probably limited to a very small number of crap props that you never bothered paying attention - I was very young and unexperienced.

Haah I would do. Unfortunately right now I\'m working on documents so I\'m doing space/hitech 3d artworks for a pasttime, and since posting it goes against the rules of the forum, I guess no scimitar/bow for a while :(

See this one, for now. they are lowpo.

Hi,

Very nice work Elentor, you totally understood the use of blending mode. You should really add a bit more smoothness to your swords.
The textures are nice, if you make the models a bit better, it will be pro level :)
Keep the great work and apply again to PS. (if not already done)

Amazing what you do with low poly shapes and amazing textures.  How large are your textures for your swords?  I imagine something quite high to get that detail.

Thanks, these models are a bit old actually. I\'m mostly doing space scenes right now. Like I said, I can\'t apply to PS, too much work to do already.

I do them at 512*512 then downsample to 256*256. Because of the game\'s dynamics (crafting custom weapons) the blades and the hilt have different texture maps, so the res. end up pretty high.
