Title: Plz, could I break my neck any more frequently?

So...sick...of...falling.

It\'s like the only way to die in this game.  I swear.  I\'ve been playing for an hour and i\'ve killed rogues but my greatest enemy is the EFFIN super round hills where all of a sudden I fall through the landscape or just randomly and die.

This is be my 13th trip through the DR.

Anyone need a tour guide?

I used to have that problem.  You just have to be careful.  Know where it\'s safe to walk and where it isn\'t.

i stoped playing after 6 times death realm in less than a hour.. its all but funny to die from falling

hmmm have to agree I don\'t understand why they haven\'t changed falling so you don\'t lose health from every little fall. I mean loosing health becuase you run down a staircase to hard seems a bit overkill to me and would rather have it that it would be a bit the other way even so the only real death by falling is falling of a house or a tower.

Running down steep stairs to me sounds like the perfect situation for breaking your own neck.

With the hills and whatnot it is sometimes hard to evaluate how steep a slope is or how large a fall is because we don\'t have stereoscopic monitors so depth is difficult to convey.  Still, it is possible to just take things slow and avoid the worst falls.

It\'s also the complete lack of friction that gets ya.  :D  When you slide down a hillside, you fall pretty much as if you jumped off a cliff.  Not the easiest thing for use to fix, but eventually I\'d like to see different movement rates depending on terrain.  (maybe even take more damage if you fall on rocks instead of grass)

Falling of a staircase can kill you, but the staircase where you already lose health is hardly steep and I highly doubt it\'s realistic everyone would fall there. Also you would only have a chance of breaking your neck if you fell and when you don\'t the biggest damage you have is that your feet hurt. I don\'t think that should be represented by loosing health.

Not to mention it\'s only a game and some things I feel should be a bit safer then it would be in RL.

If one jumps, or flies, down a stair from the top to the bottom it is equivalent to running off a cliff--and some people bounce a couple of times.  Cure = more health points (strengty, etc) for your character, then you will only get injured.

About running on the steep hills: I\'m not sure which would be worse, jumping from top to bottom of a steep slope, or tumbling down a rock face--seems to me no sensible person would \"run\" on a steep slope [in game it is very difficult to determine how steep slopes are unless checked from many angles, and then there are a few glitches--where it seems the landscape disappears (like with the staircase in the tower) you see it, but it isn\'t really there.]

I\'ll ask for all the devs that don\'t really have time to fix these things (but anyway): If you would please WALK  (testing) all around where you fell down and died on the hills, then if you fall into the landscape and die report the bug to a gm, with the approximate /pos (if that works) of where you were.  Note: sliding down a long slope and dying as a weak character does not count as a bug with the landscape.

So how many health points would a strong character have?  I almost always die when sliding and just want to know how strong I should be before i attempt to go  mountain climbing or skydiving or cannonballing without a pool or something.

I personally think that taking damage from going down stairs too fast is realistic.  One of the easiest ways to blow out your knees, or give yourself shin splints in real life is to spend a lot of time running down steep slopes like hills. Besides that, anyone here ever regretted jumping from too high of a height?  Even if you do land on your feet those wonderful lances of pain that shoot through your legs from the sudden stop slows me down (read: cripples, hurts, damages my Real World health).

    I admit that the sliding down hillsides is irritating, but after a while I learned just how steep of a gradient I could go up or down without damage.  Also, try walking up at an angle, like you would in real life if you were scaling a steep hill or cliff.

So you mean freeclimbing, base-jumping without a chute, or high-speed face planting in a gulley?

I have no idea; it would probably be a spoiler to let you know.  I can tell you that after some experience with a moderate character the damages were greatly reduced, but the above activities still take a toll--sometimes a life.

Maybe we should implement a rolling feature, so that if you press crouch while falling, you roll into a little ball, therefore taking less damage. It\'s a natural reaction to do so when falling down a steep incline; in fact, why don\'t we associate a skill like tumbling for instance, which would relate the damage taken in a fall depending on how high your tumbling skill was.

There is a disturbance in the force. I feel... a wish list thread being created. May god have mercy on us all.

I\'ve fallen down stairs and slided down slopes quite often - in my experience the worst you\'ll get are a few bruises.
So I would say the damage done in PS is excessive. When my character just started, I died from falling about a meter or so - I kid you not.
As for falling in the hills - people can - in RL that is - fall, slide and tumble considerable distances without dieing.

To sum it up: it\'s way too easy to accidentally die in PS. I think a game should make moving around a little safer than RL, instead of a real hazard, especially since you haven\'t got the same controls you have in RL, but are confined to a non-stereoscopic view and pressing buttons.

Pointing out the obvious at this point, unfortunately ;) Needless to say our movement controls aren\'t \"ideal\" and will definitely be tweaked, several times. They aren\'t too hard to get used to at the moment, however, as long as you take some precautions and don\'t go hill/ladder/roof jumping. In some time, everything will be made even more smooth.

Hopefully.

Down in the dungeon, I wanted to take ONE little step down a steep ladder and ended up dead because my character fell down the complete height, all after a short, tiny pressing of the \"forward\"-button ...

By the way, before I forget it:
A \"Great job\" to the devs!!! :-) (no sarcasm)

I don\'t know about you, but I don\'t go down ladders facing forward in real life, because I might slip too easily and fall.

I don\'t fall, when I run down steep hills I just get lag and get killed by a rat at the bottom. Woooo \\o/

Other than that the only way I die is lag by rogues, not knowing where a cliff is or typing /die which is hillarious on new players.. Example :

*cough* Oh my, my heart! *dies*
Then they\'re all like \'Omg he\'s dead, rob his stuff!!! :O\'

EDIT : To answer the title of this thread, I think you could break your neck more often if you tried really hard.
