Title: Hair dye effects
Post by: Easton on March 14, 2006, 04:14:52 am
I found a thread on this, but it was posted a long time ago, and no one had responded. I can\'t see the effects of hair dye. I was wondering if i was maybe missing a file or something, or if there was some other fix..

If you know anything, let me know.. thanks..

Stay Safe,
Easton Ghent

It needs to be the correct dye for your race.  (not your model; some races use other models because we don\'t have one for it yet)

Hm. Are you saying that everyone\'s hair color appears black to you, or only after they use the dye?

All Ylian and Dwarves have black hair. I\'ve seen screenshots from other people that have shown them to have red hair, when all i see is black.

Easton - game and graphics card drivers all updated?

Peacer - find those things out in-game.

Unless a coder comes and says which module/dll is responsible of handling different hair colour, it\'s also a good idea to launch the game in -console mode, so you get an output and can dive on it to search what might be missing/wrong on your files. :)

sounds difficult :/

do you have to know what you\'re doing?

You simply have to edit the shortcut, like if you were to use the fullbright option, but instead using the console one.
It should look like ...psclient.exe\" -console
Note the blank space between \" and -

You\'ll then have a secondary window, that will print all the things that are happening in the game. Simply look there for some error that may point to hair, or add screenies for people to see and try to know where the problem is.

im having trouble with being able to type -console on the psclient application.. im not sure why..

usually you can change the location, buti can\'t. there\'s not text box to edit...

Make sure you\'re trying to do that using the shortcut, not the actual psclient.exe

It\'s trying to set trait 110 onto a mesh and it cannot do it.   Trait 110 is:

White hair on a StoneBreaker

My very first guess is that somehow the race is not matching up so it is failing to apply this trait somehow.

Is this the *only* one you get?  If so it seems like an isolated case and can be tracked down.

Note to self, make debug message say which mesh/race/player it was trying to attach to.

That is the only message i got for hair. No error message was near the hair message.

It reloads itself when i pass into new zones, but i feel that is to be expected.

also, is this only with my client? i just have a feeling this would be more widespread. But then again, its possible i may have messed up some updating process a while back.

But thanks for your help and let me know if i can do anything else.

You are deffinately not alone. :) I\'ve had thi problem for a while now, and a few other people around has mentioned it, though I just blamed mine on my low-grade video cards.

I ran the console, and I also get the same error messege, and only that. One. And it doesn\'t repeat when switching sectors, and it has a trait ID of 133, and a slightly different shader (Which this would probably just be because I have a different player model, Ynnwn?)

If there\'s any other information I can contribute, just tell me.

I\'m just wondering.. do i wait and see if it will be fixed? can it be fixed in some way that doesn\'t require me changing my graphics card? or am i basically stuck.

Another note.. back when all ylian had blonde hair, i could see it.

yeah, thats all i got..

Have you already tried doing a full deinstall-reinstall?
