Title: This game is OpenGl or is it ?
Post by: Toxich on March 14, 2006, 09:45:36 pm
I have a Ati Radeon 9100 and it\'s a 8.0dirextx card

I am thinking of buying a new card and want to know.

Will this whole game be based on Opengl  or will you make the game  Ati compatible also?

Because right now I experience, extremely low fps and the loading times are accually killing my hdd.

That has more to do with the age of you hardware than Ati, I have an Ati card myself and the game (well, any game) runs great!

And ehm, you really shouldn\'t have put this in development deliberation.

Because OpenGL is a generic and rather Operating System independent technology, the game uses OpenGL instead of Direct3D (which is not supported in Linux and MacOS).

If you are able to install current ATI drivers with full accelerated OpenGL support, your game will run fine - but you will probably need to install them manually. Many operating systems do not ship a full \"ICD\" OpenGL driver.

I\'m an ATi user myself (would like to stay on nvidia, because their linux drivers are better, but good luck getting an amd64 laptop with nvidia!) and it works just ok.

1) OpenGL is just a library, like DirectX is ...just it works on more platforms then DirectX does
2) Crystal Space (http://www.crystalspace3d.org) - the engine that PS uses - is sponsored by ATi. It would be rather surprising if it wouldn\'t work then ;)

Just because the ATI is designated as a \"DirectX 8.0\" card does not mean that it doesn\'t support OpenGL - I would recommend that you go to the ATI website and try to obtain the latest drivers for your card if you haven\'t already.
