Title: Massive Memory Use
Post by: Zabio on March 26, 2006, 04:13:00 am
I just recently got back into this game.  When I stoped playing it last, I had version 0.3.012.  When i did an update for the new version, it messed the game up somehow, so i uninstalled the game, downloaded the new version and installed it and it is running great.  However...

System:
XP Media Center
AMD 2.0 GHz proc
1GB RAM
ATI 9200 (with updated drivers)

After walking around a few minutes, i notice in my Windows Task Manager [Performance tab]  that the Proc use is 100% and the memory use starts off at about 600 MB RAM.  ((Normal system operation uses 235 MB RAM.  I have always assumed this is the normal use of RAM for this  game.  OK, now after exploring a few more minutes (about 10) the memory use starts to increese to 1.5 GB.  I DO NOT have the settings set for [keep maps loaded] or [Load all maps].

This is really bothering me. Is there some sort of memory leak in the new version?  I never had this happen in the previous version.  THanks

There have been memory leaks, aye. Try turning your sound off in pssetup.exe - it may help a ton.

Ok, i disabled the sound and ran from Oja to the arena.. my memory use never went over 600 MB, it even helped the proc useage.. it now stays level at about 70%  THanks..   I just have no sound anymore. but that is ok.  i can stil enjoy the game.

This issue has been fixed already, just needs to be included in our next big update of fixes, I believe :) It shouldn\'t take too long to push the update through, since many other bugs really need their fixes as well.

The \"updates\" we wanted to get out seem to have built up.  ;)  We\'re going to have a full release with a few new features, at this point.  I really wish shoving these updates out was easier, so we could do them more often.  :/
