Wow guys, you indeed can call that installation an installation procedure :) Ok, the ebuild didnt work. Ok, so I downloaded the binaries (PlaneShift_CBV0.3.013.i686.bin). Ok, so I went to the forums and did this and that (Installing PlaneShift on Linux (http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=19389&boardid=41), Missing libraries (http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=22248&boardid=41), \"invalid pointer: 0x085a92fc\" error with updater and client (http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=22362&boardid=41)). And yay! After all I got to the character creation screen. But now I\'m lost, all of the models that is displayed is their beards. I mean, those are nice beards, no doubt, but I would like to see the rest of the character as well :D Error messages in stdout/stderr:
crystalspace.canvas.openglcommon:
Could not open driver database file \'/config/gldrivers.xml\'
crystalspace.engine.warning:
Shader std_lighting.xml not available
Shader std_lighting_portal.xml not available
Doesn\'t sound related to me. Btw, /opt/crystalspace/etc/crystalspace/config/gldrivers.xml exists and is readable (but not writable of course).
I probably lack some art files, but shouldnt the updater detect that? It says the tree is up to date. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
With Regards
Lachesis
P.S. I know today is April 1st, but this really is not a joke! :)

Only hair and faces are available for customization at this point. (and only for some races) Welcome to pre-alpha. :D

ok :) But I have more serious problems now. I created a char ignoring the fact that I have no idea what it looks like ;) and I even worked around that premature character movement problem (Crash preventing login? Post here for taxi service (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=22469&boardid=17)), and finally crash on a missing font (becker-m). :D Here\'s the output of psclient:

I\'ll also try to compile CVS now in the hope that it\'s working better than the release :P Wish me luck!
P.S. What lib versions / checkout dates / tags do you use on CVS?
P.P.S. Check channel #planeshift-build on Freenode IRC for current library dates. At the time of this post 2006-04-06 00:00:00 UTC checkouts are used.

You didn\'t crash because of the missing font. Before starting the game, run this command and it should work:
export MALLOC_CHECK_=0
-
Got CVS compiled, using an older checkout since recent CVS isnt accepted by the server anymore. Unfortunately it occupies my CPU for printing diagnostic messages (every frame of course) so the game is unusable. I tried again using the precompiled version, copying the missing font from CVS. Finally I could log in, however I see an infobox \"This is a message returned from server. You should normally not be able to see this.\" As soon as I click OK, the game exits. Tell you what, this game doesnt like me. :D
*goes playing tuxkart for a while*
-
I tried with MALLOC_CHECK_=0 and got the first working log in. Don\'t know whether it\'s deterministic though. What I\'d really appreciate though is a client that doesn\'t have that character-movement-during-map-loading crash :D
Thanks for everyone that has been helping! I will continue this thread if necessary, though I hope it won\'t be.

Important hint to others with similar probles: if you have CAL3D, Crystalspace or CEL installed system-wide, make sure you run
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/libs/:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
unset CAL3D CRYSTAL CEL
before you run planeshift (binary distribution), in order to make sure that only the libs shipped with PS are used.
P.S. Thanks to Bereror for the hint!
P.P.S If you compiled PS yourself, and installed CAL3D, CS and CEL in $CALPREFIX, $CSPREFIX, $CELPREFIX, respectively (probably /usr by default), set
export CAL3D=$CALPREFIX
export CRYSTAL=$CSPREFIX
export CEL=$CELPREFIX
export CEL_PLUGIN_DIR=$CELPREFIX/lib/cel
to configure/compile, and
export CAL3D=$CALPREFIX
export CRYSTAL=$CSPREFIX/lib/cs
export CEL=$CELPREFIX/lib/cel
to run planeshift.

I think unset CAL3D CRYSTAL CEL would be the proper way, but your way may work as well.
