Title: PlaneShift's first Gambling Game
Post by: grenkar on April 10, 2006, 12:09:15 am
24 scratch has been canceled because of the realization that it involves very poor odds it will hopefully be replaced with a better one in the future.

I realised that I may not have been the first to start a gambling game, but you must realize that it sounds better to call my game the first than t call my thread \"Yet another gambling game\"

I\'ve come up with three different gambling games.

One based on blackjack, one using the chairs in the reflection room, and one based on the card game war.

really? how successful were these games?  I\'d like to see how past gambling games have done so I can know how mine might work out.

I was planning on having my Guild sponsoring an event.  Proglin will prolly beat me to it.  A lot of my gang are taking a break from the game.

My favorite game we played and tested was a game using the chairs in the reflection room.

I\'ll show you sometime.  It is easy and can be funny depending on which set of rules used.

Everyone that played in my guild had a good time playing the game, and the few I did show seemed to have fun.

I could post the rules if you want.

Title: Marledoek & Ebrasch.
Post by: Marledoek on April 10, 2006, 03:22:01 am
Don\'t search any longer Proglin :D

Nice see more projects up coming projects.
Hope it will become a big succes. I\'ll definetly come and have a play. Contact me in game, perhaps we can organise a little. That way we can perhaps provide arround the clock entertainment and offer a bigger diversety of games.

As some already know are Ebrasch and me making preparations for the launch of a new casino. Offering entertainment somewhere near you!

This would be good time to explain the games a little as well. The games we now have open are Yliakum roulette and Blackjack12 and more to come.

My personal favorite is the Blackjack12. Each time one or more people can play at the same time. Trowing a normal dice, the player tries to get as close to the 12 as possible. If you go beyond the 12 you lost this round. The player closest to the 12 wins! Recieving there 1:2 winnings. Order of turns can be desided by dice but the last turn is reservated for the casino. In case of a tie, a rematch takes place.

Yliakum roulette is Ebrasch favorite, he is currently working on the last details. But most likely, fate will be desided by a 42-sided dice. In case of 41 and 42 the casino wins the round. The roulette table has diffrent games all with there own rewards. Depending on the chosen game, your money can be doubled 1:2 or even .. uhmm.. fourtyfied  (Hehehe) 1:40!!!! So if you have the right instinct or have that lucky feeling, come and give it a spin.

Ofcourse you can read about it but i would advise to drop by and test your luck. Try the games for free if you like, but remember, you got to spend money to make money!!

More games will follow. There are even some ideas for large crowd games. If you have suggestions for our casino, send me a tell. All input is welcome :)
We\'ll let you all know ASAP where and when.

See you soon and good luck!

M.

PS: Impervious again? Perhaps time for a quick gamble. ^^,

That casino sounds great.  Perhaps there could be a place for 24 scratch there.

Since I designed my character (Gluonite) to have a terrible gambling problem, expect to see him there doing utterly stupid things with these games. I\'m glad to see he will finally have a regular outlet after all this time.

I\'ll gladly run a game of \"chairs\" for anyone that wants to play.  It is a group game for three to five people with multiple winners.
[download of new client is taking forever, and I get the feeling it won\'t work right away.]

Sounds good, add me and we\'ll meet up soon. If we can do it right, the longer it lasts and the more fun we have/provide. ^^

M.

@Osmo
Sure, would love to play a round! All suggestions and games are very welcome.

@Gluonite
I\'ll reservate a comfortable chair for you, sir.

I wonder what the Laanx priests will think about gambling in their sanctuary ...

OOC: I really don\'t want to shoot your idea down but I do hope you\'ll find a better suited place than a sacred room inside a temple to start gambling games. Else I suspect some mad priests throwing you out or Laanx himself making a little wager about how many firebolts it takes to fry a gambler.

Probably the same thing they always say.

I can\'t understand you and no there is no need for any help right now.

Interesting idea... Hopefully should liven things up a bit. Anyway, just a note for everyone: this thread is clearly out-of-character: that means no in-character at all. That also means you don\'t need to use brackets here or specify \"OOC;\" that\'s only for threads that are in-character. :)

right, because if I wanted this to be an in character forum I would have placed RP in the title.

Gotta say that the odds on Scratch 24 aren\'t all that appealing.

Without the mule call, picking 8 gives the best possible returns, a gain of about 2.8% per roll. With the mule call rules, I\'m losing at least 17.75% on every single roll, and much more on most. Of the best non-mule options, a 4 yields a 29% loss and a 14 yields a whopping 70% loss.

And if I score the jackpot... bet on a 24 and make my 512-to-1-against roll... I get a whopping 5X return? No thanks. I think I\'ll save my trias.

(For reference, compare your 17.75% edge to a Vegas casino\'s edge in craps of 0.14%.)

I don\'t think that the odds are really that bad, though you were right about the jackpot (sh don\'t tell anyone).  I did a trial game and I was worried I would be losing money.

Comparing the odds to craps isn\'t really fair considering craps has the best odds you can get.  If you wanted to compare 24 scratch to any real gambling game, I would suggest roulette.  Tons of people play that regardless of the odds.

5.26% edge on a double-0 wheel, or 2.7% edge on a single-0 wheel. Scratch 24 has worse odds than a septuple-0 roulette wheel, and I\'m pretty sure that wouldn\'t get too many takers.

\"I was worried I would be losing money...\" If this is a worry maybe you shouldn\'t be gambling? =) As long as your edge is positive you\'ll make money in the long run, assuming you have the cash reserves to keep playing through unlucky streaks. And if you don\'t have any customers, you won\'t be losing money but you won\'t make any either...

Gabriel if you don\'t wish to play the game then don\'t play it.  You don\'t have to go and make a scene on the forums.

ok gabriel I guess you win because I got an extremely low turnout.

I would be great though if you could help me out with the odds if I were to try to make a new gambling game.
