Title: 0.3.014 doesn't sound good...
Post by: Alvarez on April 14, 2006, 06:36:48 pm
I\'ve installed and runned the preview client 0.3.014 and it started with a sound problem that wasn\'t there before. When I started the client, I could immediatly hear a strange and annoying noise in the music, a noise that would stay in the game trhoughout all the sounds. Since it was the preview version and bugs would still be fixed, I didn\'t mind them. But after I download the 0.3.014b the same problem still occurs. Sometimes when I start the client it\'s ok, but a lot of times it isn\'t. Should I have done something I didn\'t? Is this a commom problem?

Thank you.

I\'ve never found myself in such a situation, anyway, what I do recall of sound weirdities is PS affecting sounds displayed on websites, as I tried to report in http://planeshift.oodlz.com/bugtracker/bug.php?op=show&bugid=1663&pos=17
but not the other way around.

Perhaps you indeed were navigating through a website that was displaying sound, and while so, you launched the client and that caused interfering?

I too have been getting some strange \"crackling\" in the sound.  but that was with the .14 preview and thought it would be cleared up in .14b (downloading now) will see if it does.  bt is comming trough Morpheus idk if that would be a problem.... will edit when downloaded.

There aren\'t many code changes to the client in the .14b.  I get some crackling on the startup \"boom dadudadummm\" too.  I talked to Rhad about it, and it seems there are some odd buffer problems.  Though, after that point the rest of the sound works fine.  It needs to be investigated.

There are other points where I had cracking in the sound as well.  On starting that little short rift crackles a lot, but so did the combat music.

I also get the crackling noises in .14b at startup but I thought it was my soundcard or something...

ok 14b is doing it too.  I get the crackling in all music.  did some digging and it is not the .ogg files they sound fine in winamp.  must be something in the coding.  (don\'t know much about sound coding but willing to learn) I figured it would be something simple like

//open file
//run file

but I am probably wrong....

I have got crackling sounds even with the previous version.
Just giving it a chance to make things better step by step and soon we will have a really good sound management that gives the chance to play without crashing or getting memory leaks and play nicely as well! :)

winamp 5.21 got it off of the winamp site (didn\'t get the smallest version as it didn\'t play .ogg files ;) ). got the basic free version.
