I think that place should be a not die by fall zone or somthing I DIE WAY TO MUCH, so ATOMIC BLUE and Co. keep many players, AND FIX THE DROP! :@#\
-
Don't be silly :} It's possible to survive very well if you have 100HP, and sometimes even when you have less. Get some potions, maybe use -fullbright if it helps, and make your way down carefully.
-
full bright?
I have been close to getting it before, i think that it is annoying that maybe one out of 10 times you will get it, they could make it eaiseir or something
-
The whole point is that it's not supposed to be so easy. Only those who can survive are meant to.. well, survive, down there :} It's like asking any other game out in the industry to make every area easy for every player to get into. That's unrealistic. If you have trouble, get healing potions, train some strength and endurance, etc.
See this (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=20938.0) topic about -fullbright. It basically eliminates all ambient lighting, so you get no shadows, no change between night and day, and things are overall brighter.
-
Are you doing it right? I should explain a guide here.
After dropping to the wooden plank, make your way to the rope. Be careful not to miss or fall at an angle where you'll hop off and land somewhere down in the platinum mines and die. Slowly (or fast, as long as you don't move left or right while walking) make your way to the next plank. Now, if you have some potions, use them, and if not, wait to get about 90% of your health left (or 100% if it's really low) and hop down to the wooden platform below. It helps me if I land on one of the guard rails off to the side of the platform, since they're a bit closer to where you're jumping from. If you have about 98/100 health as your max, you may wish to do this, it can save you. =P

Another thread is going on about the same thing, containing some nice info:

I had 100% heath and I stil died, I say they make it a no die zone or something or make the fall eaiser, or ad some stairs that are broken that you have to jump or somthing because all of the quests I have left to do require me to down there, so someone high up in the nexus team can fix.
-
Well right now, falling into a new sector will reduce damage to 0. Like at the death realm, ever wondered why you don't die when you drop through that hole? And do you wonder why you don't die falling through the pot? It's simple - sector boundaries.
Making it a no die zone would require making a small sector that isn't more than a centimeter in length when you fall, and then change back to the original sector or something. I'm not expert on codes, but if you don't wanna die when falling, I suggest you train your strength, because what I said will not be implimented nor translated into something that makes sense. =P

The horizontal portals thing that can glitch initially dropping into the well is due to a long standing bug in CS. Just walk in, instead of jumping.
Getting killed on your way from the cliff to the bridge is all on you. You just have to have a strong enough character, and know what you're doing. All you really need to do, is to jump down once, cross the rope, and jump down again. (preferably to a railing on either side, though it's possible to survive the full drop too) Simply put, just because you don't like it doesn't make it a bug. If you can't get down there, then figure out how, and don't rant here please.

Once they fix mouselook back to the way they had it, you could possible take the back way in, which to me is the real entrance. It's near the gate leaving to the Ojaveda Road. Just run, jump off the ledge, spin around with mouselook, and if you're lucky you'll end up on the other side of the wall with no problem at all. If not, you'll fall down and recieve about 30% damage, and that's with a well-built character. Be careful on that, too. =P
-
Don't know if this is actually your problem, but if you are stuck in mid-air after loading the dungeon map, don't move (as the fall would be fatal for some reason), but rather /unstick. This will take you either to the bottom of the well or back to the temple.
-
That's an annoying bug. =/ It's why I say they move the area down to about an inch before we hit the ground, so that we'll float an inch above the ground instead of try to make our way down and either die or have to jump into the pot again.

Here are my problems with the dungeon...
Falling on the way in.. causes serious damage.. sure it should try and restrict less experienced players from entering.. but I really hate the idea of taking a small drop (which anyone could manage) and then dying fatally from it..
Were talking about a 1 storey drop here..... if you go outside and jump off the roof of your house.. the most your likely to get is a sprained ankle.. (on grass) and a broken leg maybe if you land on cement. (you certainly wont die form it unless you go head first)
OK so once you've died a few times and made the 7 minute journey from starting point back to laanx temple (while gathering more RSI)
while stopping off along the way to buy some healing potions to help easy the pain of falling..
Once you get down there.... There are barely any monsters to kill.. a whole lotta wandering and not much to do other than mine.
Ie monsters are either way too weak or way to strong to be worth attempting to kill.
So you follow the dungeon all the way to the bottom..
Incidentally... I dont know how to climb down latters.. ie... I've tried walking slowly down them forwards and I've tried doing it backwards.. and either way I end up taking a fall.
(am I doing something wrong ?)
When you reach the bottom there doesnt appeart to be anything to do other than mine.. so eventually you get sick of it then try to find your way out..
After trying in vain for several hours to find the exit ... you simply give up and kill yourself..
This to me doesnt sound like a particularly great dungeon experience...
just my 2c

That's what I was reffering to with the horiziontal portals issue. That is a bug, but it's in our graphics engine. The best thing to do is to use load all maps or keep maps loaded to keep from getting stuck at all.
After that point, however, it's a matter of aiming and having the health you need. Lots of people bring extra food or potions and heal before the last drop. If you have a strong enough character, you can just hop all the way down, though. ;)
When it comes to the exit, what used to be the "secret entrance", it's just supposed to be the exit now. I had fun trying to hop around the corner to get in, a while back, but I think it's not possible anymore. (correct me if I'm wrong)
The dungeon used to be a prime destination, with one of the 3 or so sword droppers... before the weapon overload we have now.
-
The only problem I have with the dungeon are those ladders in the deeper parts, they serve no purpose going down whatsoever. Ever since a few versions back, don't know which one for sure, you can't walk down them without falling.

Walk sideways down them.
-
The ladders are annoying. I even tried to strafe down them, but I still lose a little damage.
-
i don't lose damage by that. You need to go sidewayls down, don't forwards. if you fall halfways that might be it ;)
-
Ladders, yes, they used to work fine. Someone must have changed the setting somewhere along the line - surely it would be a simple matter of changing them back again?
As regards the 'bug' that leaves you hovering, it hasn't happened to me since the last upgrade. Also I prefer to walk to the edge of the well then run in (without jumping). It seems to help.
I agree with Karyuu on the main drop - it is right that parts of the game are restricted to experienced players. This is good for newer players too - the areas they need for practicing skills aren't being hogged by 'oldies'. It also gives you something to aim for, surely.

Thanks for the tip, guys .. though I still hope those ladders get fixed. It's just not very realistic to climb sideways down a ladder.
-
I think its great that you can lose your life in climbing those blasted ladders. It adds an element of danger in climbing the tower. It really shouldn't be so easy to reach the top actually. Ladders are dangerous. Strafing down them is the best method I have found to avoid damage, as for the very last ladder that leads to the top, I used to hate that one. I would die as i reached the very top 2 out of 3 times but now I have a 100% success rate, still have to be careful though.

Anyone who needs help learning to get down through the well, learn where different mines are, etc.. I do tours of the dungeon for 250 trias each. Free rock pick afterward. This is to help those who have difficulty with the dungeon.
-
That's some nice business, Archon :P
-
I do the same thing, only you get to keep the plane you flew in on. Top that TWA...erm, Archon.

ha ha ha thats the way.. make a business out of it...
"the origins of this dunegeon are very misterious... some say it was created by the god of laanx"
"while others say it was the work of an magical man who sat infront of a divine portal known as a Pentium for days prayin..."
"and over to your left you can see a bandit who has been standing there for days.."
"if you go up to him and kill him nicely he might give you a treat.."
-
the real pain for me is having to walk all the way back from ojavada.
-
I just checked, and I can get into the backentrance. Someone recently showed me how to do the jump, and after trying an hour I managed. It now takes me a few tries only. I also managed to teach someone else, by just practising for 5 minutes in a safe spot. He made the jump in one try.
I do not use the mouse-look-run one, although that may also still work if you repair the mouse look/run as explained in another thread.
-
Huh? Explain...I didn't know there was any other way... =/
