Anyone know the name of the RPG that basically plays itself. You turn it on, and really, it runs, moves the character around, etc. Really, the player sits back and watches. It came up in a discussion at work tonight and I remember seeing it here and I found the thread that it was mentioned in, but alas, it seems to have been lost during the forums conversion.
It had an online mode, or a offline mode of play. Why would anyone ever invent such a game? Well, it does make fun of those that enjoy playing a leveling game and then just get outside macros to move the character for them and let it do all the leveling for them.

Sounds crappy.. :sweatdrop:
Better watch a movie..

Nah, its really funny to watch it. I think it started out as a joke, but over the years it really developed into something. I just couldn't remember the name. And I know as soon as I see it, it'll be one of those "Dur" moments.

Progress Quest (http://www.progressquest.com/)? Took me ages to remember, too. :)
-
YES!!!! That is so what I was talking about. Haha sooo funny, just look at the required, but fully customiseable keyboard commands:
Game controls:
Progress Quest belongs to a new breed of "fire and forget" RPG's. There is no need to interact with Progress Quest at all; it will make progress with you or without you.
You can quit Progress Quest by using the window close box, or by hitting <Alt>-<F4> (hold down the <Alt> key while hitting <F4>), but there is really little need to ever do so. Please note that your character will not make any progress except when Progress Quest is running. Your character will make no progress once you quit the program, until you start Progress Quest again.
Keyboard quick reference:
| Key | Description |
| Alt-F4 | Exit Progress Quest |
Thanky Mr Saint :3

Wow, so,...whats the point of a game like that?
To sit in your taskbar and run in the background?
I can think of a dozen other programs I'd rather have tax my system, like adware.
I guess it would be ok for a 4 year old. ;D

The game was made to make fun of people who use bots.

Yes as Zanzi said, it was made to make fun of those who like to use bots to do all thier "boring training" for them on a game that is meant for you to do just that, train and level. It is a joke. Geek humor at it's finest.
-
Not a RPG, but also funny while watching the bots, being a kind of tech demo, or benchmark, this way (brag with your "incredibly fast while incredibly impressive" OpenGL card):
Scorched3D - The Mother of all Games, now in 3D! (http://www.scorched3d.co.uk)
But of course, you can also play against the bots. And against human players. Just as you like.
And don't forget to try the Apocalypse and Shock mods - they have funny additional weapons of mass destruction (like a "Hornet's Nest", or "The Travolta").
-
Ahh, I see, what a clever joke, I'm guessing people actually download and watch this?
-
Yes Sat, it really is interestng to do and its funto watch other people come by and wonder what the heck it is you are doing when they see it running.
As for Scorched, that is still a great game, athough, Pocket Tanks will always be my fav of the two.
-
The fun thing about using bots is that you can become incredibly strong in online games and *wipe* out your friends..
I only used one in a stupid online 2D game, it was only against my friends

Conquer online, Botwars... etc
