Title: some new good ideas
Post by: istdasklar on May 04, 2006, 01:51:57 am
Hello everyone! I'm french.. Sorry for my english...PLANESHIFT IS veryyyyyy good!!
List of ideas!
I ) COMMUNICATION
1 - Typing Text ( do you speak?)
When a player chat, a little message ( "is speaking...") is on the top of his head..This is like MSN messenger! ( ...is typing a text...)

2- Buzzer ! ( I want to speak with you?)
Just one button for Cry :  " He ho !! I'm here, I want to speak with you ! Like buzzer in MSN. ( when player is selected)

3 - Pointer tool ! ( Where is it??)
A player can point somthing...like SWAT 4 games! When I ask to an another player : " Where are the caste ?" ..this player show me the direction! ( a red point is marked....)

4- Target ( Who speak with me? Who have I to follow?)
A player can select a player near.. Like space games!! And an arrow is shown!.....If the man is behind me, I follow arrow , and I see the man!!

II- MOVING

1- Mouse controler ( run or select?...=> run AND select)
I think, it's difficult to control with keyboard! I prefer a quake like control ! => wake with keyboard and direction with mouse! As that, it's easy to select someting and walk!  ( Like tomb raider Legend).

2- Move fast ( It is still far? )
Maybe a Horse ? ..Magic car ..   ;D

3- a map paper ( Where I am? I have to turn left or right?)
If we have a map or exit pannel, arrow .... I will never lost!
>Name of the city ! Name of shop, of building....

III - Environement

1- Random position of bot .. ( 3..2..1..I kill it ! 3..2..1..I kill it again! 3..2..1 I kill it again! yeah!!)
You can create a lot of Position. When a bot is created, a random position is gived!

2- 3D
Why you don't use an 3D  engine which already exists ? Like quake 3, OGRE =>http://www.ogre3d.org!
SDL for 2D ?

So..I will write more if I have ideas!

Each of your suggestions can be addressed by one of the following statements:

i) Controls can be changed in options.
ii)  PS isn't an arcade game; realism takes priority over convenience in many cases.
iii)  Use the search function.  Maps have already been talked about ad nausium.

I don't understand the buzzer idea. Can you explain a little more? :}

Everything else, however, and I mean everything, has been suggested before. Duplicate wishes aren't looked upon too highly.

I think he means that when someone is trying to get your attention, you hear an instant-messenger style sound.

Oh, I see. What would count as "trying to get your attention" though? Clicking a button to make another player hear a buzzer is just weird.

for the buzzer you could have a thing saying hey you or sumthin that only can be heard by the player sending it and the player recieveing and it will tell u who said it in the chat box

How do you explain that in roleplay terms? How realistic is it? If you want someone's attention, why should it be heard only by the two parties? (I would recommend a /tell instead.)

poke on the shoulder?

Or long distance, a poke on the shoulder from some little kid who says "blah blah wants to meet you blah blah"

Either way, the /me and /tell /me  work fine as is

Basically my point - there's no need to overcomplicate something as simple as this.

I think my favorite was this though:

CrystalSpace exists :} Jorrit, the CS project manager, works closely with the PS team and often helps with features. It's a very nice open-source engine.

Maybe this can be explained later, by a player requiring a certain communication rune before long distance conversation is possible. "Nudges" ( ;) ) Can be explained as your rune turning a certain colour, and vibrating, to get your attention.
