Title: Specialisation Titles
Post by: Psignosis on May 04, 2006, 04:14:01 pm
My idea, which is only a simple one I do admit, is to have a title come up in the menu as to what your character actually is such as...

' Jester the Seasoned Dark Mage '

The idea is based on how Heroe's Quest labels its heroes essentially.

As you start working and developing on your skills, the computer automatically determines your top five skills and creates an official title for your character. That can be 'White Mage', 'Mage', 'Dark mage', 'Fighter', 'Barbarian', 'Amazon' etc. So instead of just being a character with a hundred skills all over the place, the computer gives you an official specialisation like ' Bob the White Mage '.

You can even develop further into this by having titles such as 'Novice', 'Amateur', 'Seasoned' and 'Experienced' etc. So you can have a title such as 'Bob the Novie Barbarian' or something as such.

I think whilst the idea is simple and not very dramatic compared to some things suggested, it'd be a nice touch to the game. I can see it making the game more fun. Particularly if your trying to beat yourself by improving your rank etc.

This was just a thought that occurred to me whilst I was playing the game.

Your character gets titles in-game through roleplay. I don't see the point of this :}

I myself think you shouldnt be able to see their names UNLESS you have asked em what is there name and they reply,Maybe like a button to press and it askes,and they click click yes or no to reply..
But with your idea,i dont c a problem,i wouldnt like to see it in the game,but i dont mind

this makes no sense at all...what if someone is doing something wrong, kinda hard to report them if you don't know their name.  I doubt THAT will ever be put in

Press a button to know someones name? Erh, hmm sounds a bit wierd, and if you are looking for a guild mate (or anyone) you've never seen before?

Guys guys, the problem with not seeing someone's name until they are introduced and similar have been discussed before, just search around :} Keep to the topic.

The basic point is that your "title" being automatic doesn't quite help roleplay, and as was stated in the first post, may push people to try harder and harder to gain ranks just to get the better title by their name. The better artificial title. This is not what PlaneShift is meant to be.

Nah. Sorry but i dont think so. Its a major Role play Killer to the game to be honest.
If you look around in game, you will find  some players already have tritles. These are hard earned through the respect and knowledge from other players surrounding them and knowing them. Also  from guild activity you can gain ranks and titles.

If you need titles, we have guilds. If you want a title outside your guild, maybe go to one of the tournament or earn it.
