same thing happens here, i think that the spell takes up alot of memory at once, thats probably why i crash, but it gets annoying when i'm fighting a trepor and its almost dead and I crash, log back on and i'm in the death realm...

The problem with casting the burst spell is known and has been a problem for quite some time.  Thought I read somewhere once they thought they got the problem fixed, guess not.

You are right, with Arianna we thought that we found the reason for the crash and fixed it. Looks that we were wrong and it needs some more investigation.

it's more or less when you use burst alot, 1 after another but when you use 1 here and there it seems fine for the most part

i'm seconding Elvicat here, it seems only when i'm killing Trepors, which takes about 20 flamebursts, I've learned how to not go to the death realm now though, if the Trepor doesn't attack you, then right when you crash, the character logs off, keeping me from being killed by the trepor, so i'm not so worried about it, just a little inconvience, not that important.

This is definately not just a problem for the caster. If you are crashing then think what's happening to those around you.My main character maxed Red Way by going out to Consumer Crater, and blasting away.I crashed every 5 minutes, but got there without crashing anyone else.It is so bad at the moment that the arena crashes me.Lots of people want the trepor and Tefu PP.The ruins crash me, trap Ubers in pit and barbecue, some days I cant even get past it without crashing at least once. The only respite that I have had was in the brief period using the recent update preview. Not a single Flameburst induced crash. No problem after using the Ojaroad fix. Then the new updates and back to situation normal.I'm not even suggesting that people dont use it, this is my problem, noone elses.Just seems mad that the only way I will be able to continue for much longer is to switch OS.As a tester [mad mouse in marvellous maze] this must be counterproductive. /me breathes huge sigh of relief after total offload.

Linux doesnt crash at all, though when i'm using that spell certain other characters on windows xp around me crash. I have found that when they look away from the effects of the spell AND have sound turned OFF they don't crash. Maybe that can be of some help to you Imshi, Perhaps just turning of sound is enough, i think it cuts on the memory usage of that spell a lot. And as long as you dont see the graphic of it you won't crash.

Thanks, Sardit, you are right it does help to an extent.Just turning off combat sounds helps, but does not solve the problem. It is not just graphic related either in my experience. The Arena in particular is a nightmare, as my character is either involved in combat or has Wind in effect, the crash means waiting sometimes for along while before being able to re-log.Linux is the OS of choice as far as I can see, unfortunately I am long in the tooth, a comparative techno virgin and coping with it's various distros is somewhat daunting.Still, ignorance is not bliss.I will investigate. Thankyou all.

This bit of info has allowed me to continue with Windows. Try it out, it is amazing.Go to the PS Directory....data/effects/spells...you want to delete the Flameburst effect file [flame_spire.eff]. Remember you must re-delete every time you use Updater as it will replace file. Now you can still use Flameburst but have no graphic or sound associated with it.Have been crash free for more than 24 glorious hours. Thanks to Quittaa for tip.I want you to have my children, no I'm serious.....expensive to run and maintain.Have fun.
