Title: Death realm
Post by: Josellis on May 10, 2006, 12:50:52 pm
Hello  :D

I am a total n00b and, when I was wondering around, I fell down :sweatdrop: I respawned in a strange dark place (I heard it is the death realm ...) but I tried for one hour (60 minutes  :) ) to leave this place, but each time I fall down (again  :@#\ ) of one of those little ledges. Why ??? Because I really can't see ANYTHING in some places (not joking) for me, it is just a black screen with the chat and bars (skills, quit, and I don't know what else :) )

So I was wondering how I can actually see something in this realm ... and maybe also some little instructions

Thank you

Josellis  \\o//

Welcome.

No wonder you can't see anything behind so many smilies... ;)

The game itself does not support "Gamma correction". But you may be able to use some external tools, depending on your Operating System, graphic card and drivers.

Search the "Support" forums for the keywords "gamma correction".

Hi Josellis,

The death realm can be a real pain to get out of.  While using -fullbright is a cheat, sometimes it's the only way to see where you're going without getting a new monitor.  When I first started playing Planeshift, the nights were so dark that you couldn't see anything even by Harnquist's store.  To solve it, I would cheat by having Warcraft running in the background because it made everything brighter.

A better solution is to move slowly, use 3rd person perspective, follow others, and to avoid dying.

Actually,  I had the same problem when I first started playing in January... some areas of the Death Realm were completely black, and I kept falling. Then mysteriously one day, after an update I think, I could suddenly see everything...

I'm not sure what the cause of this is... but I think that it is certain that the death realm is not supposed to be absolutely pitch black...

Sorry I don't have any solutions on how to fix it since I don't know how mine got fixed!

(and I didn't change any of the settings on my laptop)

Yep, exactly what happened to me, Death realm was so Dark I couldn't see my hand in front of my face, and the sewers were so dark I was pretty much confined to killing rats at the enterence. Then one day... presto I could see! Very strange, but VERY welcome.

You can try a couple of things.  In PS setup go to the relight panel, select death realm, and relight map.  It will take a looong time but maybe it will be better next time you enter.  You can do that with any zone that seems too dark.  Also the -fullbright option was mentioned.  Just add that to your command line in the PS icon that launches the game like so: ...\PlaneShift\psclient.exe -fullbright

Personnally I used to have my camera pointing downwards when i got to the spiral ledges. that way you can see the edge of the ledges and judge where your feet are.
Try it if get stuck again.
At the moment i can see fine in the death realm which is cool.

My main monitor died, and my spare isnt as bright, so even cranked up to max, Death's realm was pitch black. I worked for like an hour and a half to get out. Once I used fullbright, it took like a minute. Now I run fullbright all the time to fix the stuff in the forest along Ojavedo, etc.

when u are running it press ctrl+alt+del and close it in the processes tab to keep the brightness without warcraft still running :) i find quake better to do such thing although it may make it to bright. But i've never needed to use it anyway!

I'm trying to relight the map atm, but it is taking some time .... but I can wait  :D

And the -fullbright thing, I didn't quite understand (if the relight map doesn't work ...) Do I just add " -fullbright" at the end of the shortcut to the file ???

But this function is not fully supported and will be removed in the future. It may even not work for you and give some strange results. Using the -fullbright option is considered cheating, because some parts of the Yliakum should be dark.

And any reports of bugs caused by the -fullbright option will be ignored :D

Well i have a similar problem, but its for all the games, my solution, i play planeshift at night with no lamps aimed at the monitor, its just the sunlight that makes it bad to see for me, Normal aps show up fine but planeshift just is to dark i guess. Anyway try darkening the room a bit it sure helps me

I have been stuck in the deathrealm for two hours  ::| could not see much of anything, exept one guy ran up to me asked how to get out then killed himself :o i didnt know that was possible.
Well i am trying to relight with the setup but it keeps hanging at 15%, so i will try the allbright.

 :o :-\

You keep ignoring the "Gamma Correction" hint.

I can't believe it.

You still prefer messing the experience completely, over tweaking it.

Does your graphic card driver not have a similar option like mine?

German version; please, anyone with an english Windows, explain how to find it - probably like: Right-click on the desktop for the context popup menu, click the "Properties" entry, "Settings" tab, "Advanced" button (or similar, I don't know the labels for sure). In Linux it is similar, at least what I remember from KDE.

I tried it, but I don't like it: it works great in Death Realm, but not for the GUI and I always need to change it before I start the game and change it back after I've finished the game ...

And I took a pic of what it looks like WITHOUT -fullbright and after I relightend the map twice:
