I don't usually do this, and considering it's frowned upon already, but I need to ask a question about the server. Tuesday, I was able to get on Planeshift once during the entire day. Later, when I booted the game up the server had failed. I tried again yesterday multiple times throughout the day, and never once did it work. Today I did the same thing with similar results.
At laanx.fragentics.com, it says the server is up and running, and on the main page there was an update today but no mention of the server. So I'm wondering, is it the sever that's the problem, or is my computer just acting up again? Help much appreciated.

The info at laanx.fragnetics.com is right. The server has been up pretty much constantly for weeks now \\o//
Good luck finding the problem...

Heya Thoughtcrime,
Have you tried pinging the server? (On Windows, for example, enter 'ping laanx.fragnetics.com' into the Run command.) If the connection is timing out, there is a problem somewhere on the route from the server to you, and it could be a hiccup in a network somewhere, or it could be something a little more major and out of your reach.
-
It'd be better to do cmd first, and then enter the command at a prompt so it doesn't just close when it's done.
Better than ping => trace route
Do: tracert laanx.fragnetics.com
If you want to copy/paste, you can turn on "Quick Edit Mode" via the properties (right-click the main icon in the upper-left), select the output, and hit enter.
-
DaveG, would you mind elaborating on that a bit? Sorry to be a bother, that all just kind of went over my head since I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable on computers XD
-
Open start, click on Run, write cmd.
Then write tracert laanx.fragnetics.com
In the window that will open, click on the little c:\ that you see on top left.
Click on modify and then on "Select all".
Press enter.
Paste the content here.

Tried it, it said the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applcations. Ugh, this computer is trying my patience a bit...
-
Um... heh?
Google says you upgraded to SP2 and got an error, maybe? Give this page (http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/1453) a shot.

Alright, I can get into the cmd program now. ...Unfortunately, now there's more problems. :-[ I typed in "tracert laanx.fragnetics.com" but no window comes up; it just goes to the next line and doesn't do anything else. Gah.
-
Try:
tracert 210.193.49.103
-
no window will come up. but it should throw you some kind of error message.
i've seen this behaviour befoere. it feels like a filewall as updated itself and is being cranky
-
Steuben's correct. I find I can get it to work if I write the command "START", but when I try the tracert command I get an error message. So I've made quite a few jumps closer but there's still some bugs to work out.
-
?
what is the error message that you are getting? and for that matter which os are you running?
-
I get a beep and the message comes up: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe - tracert 210.193.49.103 The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. CS:005a IP:ffe4 OP:fe ff 1D 09 Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." And a bunch of gibberish comes on the program.

:-\ Well if theres something wrogn with my computer as you say, is there anything besides that that I can get this game to work? I played the old version and it worked fine and I'm anxious to play this one...

Quick Google search shows, that it can be a result of infection with some kind of virus/trojan/spyware. Check, if You can find any of the following files in your system:
cmd.com
netstat.com
ping.com
regedit.com
taskkill.com
tasklist.com
tracert.com
Look at the following threads: -> here (http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showthreaded.php/Cat/0/Number/218211/page/0) and -> here (http://www.techimo.com/forum/t117644.html), I hope You will find sulution there. If not - reinstall system (it may be fastest way) :-\
-
Yeh you could try just re-installing windows, that often fixes everything :| Including viruses; besides, viruses often do lasting damage to your system.. reinstalling might be the better option.
Yeah I tried this thing, there's no window but it just says "Tracing route to gandalf.fragnetics.com [210.193.49.103]" and you can see it "hopping" :whistling: .
Omg 12 hops for me.. one timed out

Thank you Wired Crawler, I will try that.
For now, I've just installed Planeshift at my dad's house. I can play on weekends now at least.
