I want to be sure I'm understanding the mechanics here on getting quests.
1) NPC's giving a quest is set at a random or specific time
2) You have to ask for the quest in one of several different manners, but you have to guess the manner/phrasing of the question
If this really IS the case I'll be closing my account after a week of playing. I quit playing the old Ultima games because of this technic of "making the game more challenging".

1) no idea?? probably though
2) "give me a quest" or in my case, "Give me a quest foo!" Works for alot of the quests...though other wording may be needed for tougher ones. So I'll see ya around, thanks for trying ps.
Adios.

1) the way I undrestand it, there is a timer on certain quests and npc's so that the same npc isn't giving out the same quest every 5 seconds. but his I have only seen with more of the harder ones, that give better rewards and such.
2) normally, "do you need something", a variation of that, "give me a quest", stuff like that works well. There are some quests that will require the npc to get to like you ( as in, you have to ask how they are doing, then ask about things it says in its response, etc. You know, hold a conversation with it.) after all, when the npc system is completed, it should be no different than holding a nice conversation with one of theem IM bots. and those can be quite fun sometimes.
Unfortunately, it sounds like you may not be wanting to stick around that long, as it will take time, just as everything else does around here. I welcome you to stay and participate in testing things, making friends, engaging in the RP, but you must remember that you are a tester first and playe second, and that this game is still in early developement. Hope this helps.

There are 2 timers. (both are quest-specific) There's a lockout per character and also another per quest that applies to everyone.

You know, I wonder why people bother to make such statements. Not that we use such a system as you described exactly, but even if you found something in the game you disagreed with, telling us that you'd just leave wouldn't really make the entire team rethink their work. I understand if paying customers can use the threaten-to-close-account tactic, but here it's just.. out of place :]
Anyway, lock-outs can be irritating for those who have nothing on the mind but "leveling," but if you think about it, it's a more realistic system than having an NPC give out the same quest time after time without pause.
