Title: Unreadable Page Quest
Post by: zadig on May 12, 2006, 06:04:03 pm
I'm sorry if this thread exists - I could not find it but; Does the Unreadable Page quest work? Am I just not doing it right?

If it does not I'd like to know so I can just stop waisting time...if it DOES work ...then I have work to do.  ::|

It does work. It's just very hard :) Also npc dialog recognition isn't very good atm. Hopefully that's something we can improve fairly soon which will help make quests a bit more doable.

I wonder if this is still working in the latest version?  I think I've interpreted the clues correctly and have returned to a certain person (who said I should come back) to ask about what I've discovered.  However, he's not interested in either the actual page or talking about it abstractly or when it's quoted in its entirety or line by line.

That quest is actually one of the very hardest - because the next step is not giving the translations, but putting all the pieces together and figuring out what they really mean.

That's why I don't do the quests in this game. Just too annoying with NPC's not understanding stupid phrases. I think Jayose heard the more colorful side of my vocabulary  :innocent:

/me messes with forum features.

Thanks, it's good to know that it is working and I've just been barking up the wrong NPC.  That's the tricky part of quests as they stand, I think:  You just don't know if you've run into a problem with the NPC "intelligence" or if you are on the wrong track.  I hate asking in-game, because even if I find a way to do it in character, it's still really talking about possible problems in a computer program, and everyone knows it.

Is there any kind of overview of the algorithms and code structure of quests and NPC speech and AI as currently implemented?  I'd like to help out with this if that would be useful.

They'll probably just tell you to join the dev team.

I really doubt fixing NPC phrases is on their top priority list, they have alot of game essential things they need to do.

Besides they're busy, and can't be asked to fix everything in the game at once, so be patient, as karyuu says.  ;)

Actually NPCs and quests are one of our top priorities.

Because this quest is pretty difficult (it's a sort of riddle), I'd say that the first and only problem is just figuring out what you're supposed to figure out.

That's not true. NPCs are very smart and cunning. It was -> proved by Jekkar (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=17873.0). Because old links don't work, let me -> remind you this. (http://www.savefile.com/files/7356462) :D
