Title: Is this a first or third person rpg??
Post by: elodryn on May 20, 2006, 06:18:47 am
Before I try it, I'd like to know that. I clicked on links like game guide but it doesn't say. The screenshots aren't convincing enough because even first person RPG's provide plenty of third-person screenshots in their ads.

Hiya!

You can play in whatever view you like :} PlaneShift has both a third- and a first-person camera mode.

Press the key "M" several times to toggle through 5 different camera modes.

I usually prefer "Third Person Follow" mode.

Thanks for reply. Is there PvP at all in PlaneShift?

Not openly.  You can challenge someone to a duel, but please don't spam it and since this is RP based, only do it when you have a good reason to and it fits with your RPing of your chracter.  Else, people will start to look down on you.  Other than that, welcome, have a great time, see you in game.

I also like to tell when you that there is an automatic warningsystem active for all spamm invites.
This means when you challenge someone or start trading and you get declined by the other player, you will raise a warning level.
Each warning level has it's own penalties.
First you will get a warning from the system.
next time you will get kicked from the server (Struck Down by Laanx).

This system works for every invite you try to do.
It does not mather if you challenge a player or start a trade.
This is all the same system that is running.

Actually, it goes:
1 min lockout
5 min lockout + warning
10 min lockout + death  (struck down)
kick  (banished to another realm)
There is no ban.  I didn't want to give it the ability to do that automatically.

And, by the way, there's an option in the... options... to disable the prompt for the more violent types, or ignore all for those who don't fight.

Someone even told me today that he got about -20 duell-points for challenge spam - is that true? And since duell points don't influence the character - why would he bother? The duell points are not even beeing made public afaik.

Banish to another realm? What do you mean by that?

Probably you mean advisor points?  I believe when I 'tested the system' (with a willing participant of course) when the character got kicked for 10 mins, it subtracked 30 advisor points.

Suno, probably kicked from game, plus character sent to DR upon re entry..

But you're already in the death realm on step three...step four said banished to another realm, and I know you wouldn't be banished to DR again when you're already there.

I think you may misunderstand.

The levels build on each other.  Being banished alone the first time, you can still get back out of the DR.  Next time, should you still like to spam, not only do you get sent back to the DR in game, but you get kicked from the server all together.  Make more sense?  At least, that's how I'm reading it.

Edit:  There also is no time limit on these levels, where you go down a level after a certain amount of time,  (well, there is but it only lets you go down so far I think)  In any case, its not meant to be looked at as some one spamming over and over again in a short amount of time, rather, just them spamming in general.  It could be days, weeks, months even between punishments, or it could be a matter of minutes for those that just don't get the hint that spamming isn't tolerated.

He was telling me he had -32.xx chellange points - I don't know if it is possible to have digits after the dot in adviser points. So i don't think he confused. But he did not tell me anything about beeing kicked.
Well, I will just ask again when he is online.

*shrugs*  Poking DaveG would get you your answer, he wrote the code for it after all.  I believe the system was explained in more detail in previous threads as well.  Perhaps a search of the forums shall give you more info.

I sort of was proud of having 0 duelling points, but got myself involved in the battle at the face yesterday. For whatever reason (other forces (auto)declining and not autoaccepting, or the server not being able to handle the battle), I only managed to duell and kill once before I got a warning that I should wait 2 minutes. After killing rogues for a while (I thought more than 2 minutes) I tried again, and got the following message (which I read in DR, cause it happened the intsant I pressed my challenge shortcut):
- I now had a 7+ minute waiting period
- I was sent to DR
- 10 duelling points would be subtracted
So I was then  the proud owner of -9.79 duelling points :)
It grows in time as well, since I just checked and have -10.62 now.
I do not mind this at all, but have a question. How long does this warning level last, and does this mean that the next time I press the trade button instead of describe due to lag, and the other declines, I get kicked of the server and sent to DR? With my hardware that is about a 15 minute penalty (took me 30 minutes to get back to the battle yesterday).

The text in parens in my previous post ("banished to another realm" for example) is what the system says publicly in a system message (shout range) when it happens.  The thought behind this was that "struck down" implied death, and "banished" implied a kick from the server.  (as well as a death; you login to the DR)  I just didn't want it to shout "kicked from the server", as it's quite OOC.

The third level gives a 10 AP hit, plus 10 DP if it was duel spam.  The fourth does 30.

For expirations:  You expire all but one spamPoint on logout.  You can exipre when inviting after not inviting at all (duel, group, guild, trade, etc) within enough time.  (specifically, the time the next rank up has set for its lockout)

Ex:  Get #1.  Play for 5 minutes, invite, back to 0.  If it's a deny, it goes back up to #1 again.

I also threw in some voodoo where you could expire more on an accept from someone with noticably more AP then you and no SP.  The code is all in src/server/invitemanager.cpp and h, if you wish to look at it.  Use the link in my sig.

There's a bunch of other threads with more detailed (and less useful) info out there if you'd like to search.  Most are just spammers complaining, though.

From the view of Yliakum, your "real life" is indeed "another realm". ;)

imho i reckon most of the newbs wouldn't read these kinds of posts to understand how serious a click of a button could do. Maybe you should lock out the command for 30 secs just in case they hit lag for example and hit it 10 times thinking its not working.

These kicks and losing hard earned DP THIS easily is a little to harsh...calls for a review.
