hi,
since Planeshift is opensource - wouldn't it make more sence to offer a box where to put the Jabber (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabber) account instead of all the proprietary IM stuff? I would love to see a change there.

Jabber is a collection of open, XML-based protocols for instant messaging and presence information. Jabber-based software is deployed on thousands of servers across the Internet and is used by over ten million people worldwide, according to the Jabber Software Foundation. (wikipedia)

Ah, in the forum profile? My guess is that's just what SMF has set up.

The forums have nothing to do with us being open source :P It wasn't written by us. I don't see why someone couldn't make a small mod to add jabber if they wanted though. I doubt any PS dev has the time to make one though. This request would probably be better placed in the SMF forums.

And this is a offtopic note that we aren't all OSS/FSF fanatics :P We don't care about using proprietary software if it works good.

There is a mod, see here: http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=299

Tanks Alfonso and sorry for not looking by myself. It would be great if you could install that. Gives Jabber users maybe a bit more the feeling of beeing supported :)

ahm - was my request rejected? or are you busy? or - did you just forget? ;)
