HI, im new to the place and have encounted a problem with the Charcter Creation. Whenever i try to choose a race i always get the error:
Something unexspected happened in PLaneshift: Crystal Blue.
Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION AT 08D1E10.
have no idea what to do can anyone suggest something?

Hiya biloba,
We have a sticky for Crashes and Diagnostic Files (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=22325.0) - that error number isn't on there, so you might want to follow the directions in that thread to email the dump file to Arianna.
Beyond that, have you tried some standard troubleshooting (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=21401.msg253391#msg253391)? (Most important things are running the game updater and updating your graphics card drivers.) Can you post your system specs for us, just in case?
-
I have the latest drivers and have the game updater many times to check for missing or broken files.
My system spec is:
Windows Xp (SP 2)
AMD Athlon 300+ (64 bit) processor
512 MB Ram
Ati Radeon 9550 graphics card
Sound card is onbuilt onto the mother bored which i cant remember the model and make at this point.

I do sometimes have the same problem with him. Not all the time but mostly when i logout. It gave me the same error. And only sometimes during the game when there are alot of lag happening.
Something unexspected happened in PLaneshift: Crystal Blue.
Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION AT 08D1E10.

I have an ATI Radeon 9550 as well.. I never get to see a dump or error, however as it just plain and simply locks my computer up.. I have an AMD 2600+ barton core, 512 ram and I am running windows 98 SE .. when I get to character creation and choose the race, is when it freezes.. the only way I can get out of that is a hard reset.. kinda sad about this because it looks like it will be an awesome game and I cannot even get to the gate.. thanks in advance if anyone knows why this happens :)
-
win 98 se, that may be your problem right there. you sure you're running 98?
-
You're serious? you actually believe I am that dense I do not know what my operating system is? .. yes, actually I am very sure I am running windows 98 SE.. was there a reason you should insult my intelligence like that?
-
when you hear i'm running office 2003 or 98xp, as a responce to that question. you learn to double check. besides it is a valid question
-
For you maybe.. anyway could someone with something intelligent to say please reply instead.. this person seems to be more worried about the number of posts hey make with redundant (yet sure, why not, "valid") questions?
Edit: btw.. 98 came in two flavours for the less informed -- the original ..and later on (still supported until july) Second Edition (98XP LOL!) To people that are familiar at all with the windows world it was called 98SE for simplicity to type out

steuben is a very helpful forum member, cujobane. You seem to be a bit too defensive or easily offended right now, when there is absolutely no need to be :} You would be utterly surprised to learn how many people come here with next to zero knowledge of their system setups, so sometimes people ask to double-check or clarify. If you would be so kind as to reply kindly, the same courtesy will be extended to you.
Unfortunately I do not have any ideas as to what can be causing the lockups you are experiencing - but have you taken a look at the standard troubleshooting link I provided further up in the thread? Can you try running PlaneShift in windowed mode with -console? Perhaps something useful may pop up there.

Okay you all win.. two replies and neither even began to address the question of the thread.. you can tell me all how great you think of each other until you are blue in the face.. the reality is that the questioning of whether I am sure what operating system I use was insulting, and he offered *nothing* afterwards about what the problem might be.. you people can cling together in a tight little clique and hug and kiss eachother as you see fit.. I am going to leave this game on the "do not bother" rack and drop out of this circus.. don't bother replying to me either (although I am sure the person who started this thread would love some help still) as I will not be returning to see what u might post in *your* defensive response either.. enjoy your game for all that can get it to run.. I can't, and obviously not many on this earth can tell me why this is.. good luck to you all ironing out the bugs and stuff.. I can find other games to play where I won't be putting up with self important herds of self congratulating non answering insulting question asking nobodies ~Cheers.. you lost someone that could have been passionate and helpful with your fledgling game. :@#\

I asked a few questions and offered some suggestions that might have helped you - feel free to come back and answer them whenever :)

You apparently haven't done any forum support ever, and if so, not for long...
While this might have been insulting to you, there's a lo-ot of people who give incomplete or just plain wrong information. So after hunting bogus-problems or rediscovering a known bug for the 100th time, you eventually make it a habit to make sure that you have all the information you need, and that it is correct. Either you do that, or you will stop taking pleasure in helping people - or you kill yourself :woot: .
With Win98, SE or not, you're riding a dead horse. Since your computer freezes, I'd assume it's some low level device driver, usually the one for the graphics card. Now ATI has always been the master of crappy drivers, whether it's for linux or windows, and I had the same problem with a 9600 Radeon - random freezes, while the sound device also went 'woohoo'. I fixed it by throwing out that stupid card - after I changed everything else on my computer except the casing. I did use 2000 at the time though, not 98.
