Title: Installer troubles
Post by: Amun-Ra on May 28, 2006, 10:50:54 pm
Hey guys, cool game but...

I've downloaded the install file but when I run it it says "Program too big to fit in memory". That's impossible because I've got 512mb. But the weird thing is I can't rename or delete the file because it always says that's it's being used by another program, which it's not. I ran the md5 program and the codes don't match which obviously means the file didn't download right.

It really took me ages to download because I've only got 192kpbs broadband so I'm wondering if there is any possible way to repair the file somehow. I really don't want to sit for another 4 hours with it.

Thanks guys ^_^

The solution would be to use ->Parity Archive Tool (http://parchive.sourceforge.net/), but somebody's cooperation is required. In windows you can use QuickPar (http://www.quickpar.org.uk/).

I assume You are downloading windows version.

First You MUST free that file from "use by another program". Try to wait several minutes:
If the file still can not be renamed or moved get the Process Explorer (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html) (scroll to the bottom and choose appropriate version), find the process wich holds the file open and end it (or kill it).

Later today I'll post here a link to small (several kB) parity file. After downloading it, with help of QuickPar you will be able to check integrity of downloaded PS installer. As a result You will get the number of broken blocks/bytes, post those informations here. I'll then post a link to smallest possible file (or set of files) required for repair (on the condition, that it will be resonable small amount of data). Then You should be able to repair Your installer.

I am not sure, if I still have windows installer on my disk at home, so if somebody else can help with that procedure sooner, be my guest.

I would, really, it's just it never works. I sit for an hour and the thing hasn't even started yet. Besides two of my friends downloaded from the 2nd mirror without any trouble

OK, here is the parity file PlaneShift_CBV0.3.014b.par2 (http://www.savefile.com/files/5273347), and just in case it's md5 sum: 41c1f35da753c58aec11aa78e645ba4e.
Put this file in one directory together with your broken installer and open it in QuickPar. The name of installer file shoud be PlaneShift_CBV0.3.014b.exe (the name can be different, but then you would have to add it manually to fileset (button "Add"). QuickPar will tell you, how many additional blocks you need for repair.

BTW: BitTorrent can be used to repair broken file too, pitty, that it does not work for You.
